This kind of comment is why I have not published my Red Rum Restoration and 'Fast Cat' projects, it just makes forum discussions a painful waste of time!

Phil, if you can figure out how to route the supercharger belt without modifying the bonnet then more power to you. (no pun intended)

Geoff, I'm getting a warm cheeky feeling

Does this comp. have to be a kit or will a set of instructions suffice?

Here's my 2008 entry:

1. Find an old Volvo in local scrappy
2. Remove seat heater elements with the help of Mr Stanley (Watch out for the angry man and his dog)
3. Fit them to your Elan seats - strong finger nails required.
4. Wire in via a 10 amp fused relay from spare fuse in footwell and one of these:
5. Enjoy!

BTW I nominate ESM for a lifetime achievement award!

A lifetime achievement award

I was thinking about developing a modification to automatically lower/raise the side window whenever the door is opened/closed.

This would allow the seals to be re-manufactured out of a much more robust and firmer material, with a more defined groove so that the window can raise into it forming a better seal.

I have seen this applied to other cars; I'm sure it can be adapted to suit the Elan.

Any volunteers to take on the seal development? Thats not my field I'm afraid. I've got a set of a-pillar and some over-door seals to use as basic templates!

I've said this before, but my blue scrapper had a sump guard on it. It bolted into the two redundant holes on the lower block, front left as you look at the engine.

Would be a piece of cake to replicate... for someone of the metal bashing/welding ilk.

Paul
me possibly......
initially Im getting a 3d surface scan done of the A post seals....
Im then gonna get a dye done for it and then play with materials....
or probably send the scan to a seal manufacturer and see what he can do...my first choice is the hollow rubber but we will see
Im also planning on modeling what I think it should be and getting that made up......once Ive done that I'll see which one works :-)
cheers
G
ps Im deff interested in the window drop idea.....you'll be getting an A+ from me when you get it perfected:-)

Progress report:

CheapScan™: prototype built and trialled successfully in the car today. I reduced the size and weight to the bare minimum so it easily fits in the door pockets or glovebox without getting in the way, but always available to diagnose fault codes when you least expect them.

ElanFan™: I have changed tack and have a cunning plan to use the coolant temperature sender output to start the fans; this is on the right side of the thermostat and will require the minimum of buggeration.

ElannyFanny™: More test devices procured and ready to try out. Good job Summer's coming and people in cold climes no longer need their fannies (US definition of course) warmed.

One more I might tackle - FBT drier. Mine are fogged up having been in the garage for two months. I'm thinking either a dessicator or to pipe heat from the air vents through the gauges or to give them a little heater of their own. :smt017

Mr Itch, you do realise that Dico's already fitted a sump guard.......
