I was listed as 'new member on the lookout' ........... but no longer, should read new member with new (to me) Elan.

I think it was a brilliant buy, felt right, paperwork sound, decent seller, sound car, etc,etc

I have been let loose this weekend and cant believe the fun, power, road holding, stares, respect, and all round smile of the machine. Believe me, i am Smitten.

As for the size of cabin, i am seriously contemplating removing that stupid spare switch consol thing on the left (knee height) which i bang my knee on every time i engage the clutch to change gear..........which is quite often! Any Ideas?

Cant wait for the proper summer?????

Now there's a great idea. I've got my dash/fascia completely in bits and may consider this. I'll post a pic with my thoughts.

I have just re-read that. I can't think what it could be. An aftermarket one perhaps?

All I have in my SE is the dash itself with a dimmer switch on it (& clock, perfeclty placed so the indicator stalk blocks it completely ) and the centre console. There is a blank panel or 2 in the middle of the centre console where the V5 switcher , sorry air con should go, but nothing which would get in the way.

The car is a blue 1990 100k SE with full history, massive documented file of 10years MOT's and Tax, receipts for new hood, new leather seats, lotus mats, service and cam belt change, and bits for spares.

My only problem being, as i have mentioned, i am a taller driver and am banging my left knee on the spare switch consol under the digital clock behind the indicator stalk every time i want to change gear. Without surgery to the dash which i dont want to do, i have another idea. I was looking today and there is still a couple of inches space behind the driver seat which i could gain space if the stopper on the seat was removed.

My question being, does anybody know how to remove the seats to have a play around with the mechanism whilst the seat is outside the car???

If i could gain the extra space then i think i would be fitted

Undo the bolts that go through the rear of the seat runners and through the floor. Then you can simply pull out the spacers which should give you over an inch of clearance. You'll need correspondingly shorter bolts though to re-secure the rear of the seat.
