We've looked at this a bit more now. We could put a Donate Now button on the site which would take you to a PayPal instant payment page.
Our concern would be that they [PayPal] would take 3% of every donation.

Essentially, it can be done. Would anyone else want a direct link to PayPal for donations?

I think 3% is a bit steep. I have no problem with Pay Pal needing to make money to stay in business but that 3% is money I think should be in LEC. However, if a donate now button generated a decent income then it may well be worthwhile, although I suspect it would be an initial surge that would then reduce to a negligable amount of contributions. I still prefer a more targeted effort using Donington and other such events as the trigger. I also support the idea of a levy on sales of LEC items and group buys but that should be at the discretion of those putting the effort into arranging them. In my view people are more willing to donate if they receive something tangible for their contribution even if the financial value of the "goods" is significantly lower than the amount contributed, that's the phsycology behind charities including a cheap pen in their letters asking for a donation. Geoff has hit it on the head with CheapScan.

The convenience of PP would be good, but I do resent their ripoff charges. If anyone does want to make a donation, I will happily provide my address for a cheque or bank account details for an electronic transfer.

Im more than willing to chip in after the help Liz and i have received from LEC. Even though we were newbies. Any chance of a LEC car sticker in exchange ? or are they like rocking horse poo

The last batch of 100 sets were snapped up very sharply, but it's a very limited market. However there's just about enough interest for me to order another batch as they're pretty self-financing and generate a few squids for the kitty. I'll get them ordered this week.

I still have some of the old rocking horse s**t in excellent, unused, virginal condition.

As these original stickers are now so rare and sought after I will bring them to Donny and we can swell the LEC coffers even more :lol:

I have set the wheels in motion to open a savings account for the kitty. Once it is up and running, I can provide details so people can make electronic transfers if they wish to.

I've also got a cunning plan to be able to accept US Dollars without getting stung by exorbitant PayPal charges, so if there are any generous Americans reading this, please don't feel left out! :twisted:

For the Rest of the World, it's probably going to have to be PayPal.

I've recently made up a laminated sheet showing what's what for the fuses in the footwell - it is attached to the inside of the cover with double sided tape.
I could knock up a few for give aways on the stand as a sweetener for contributions - maybe they could be attached to cheaposcan with a backup device, just in case you lose the dedicated original :-D

It's for the Dom SE only but I could make up a few for USA if required

Also anyone know if SE differs from S2?

Actually I couldn't give a tuppenny toss how folk spell the abbreviated versions.
But, you're right the spelling of the real name is a pet hate of mine. Simply because there's a suburb of Telford called Donn......

Mind you, that said there's two other Doningtons in Lincolnshire.

So strictly speaking we should be giving it its full name, but nobody uses Castle Donington.
