No I haven't done it Mick.
The supply of parts is enough of a headache at the moment.

:agree:

Plus most anticipated, most disappointed if you miss out, most must come to fruition etc etc.

Has anyone considered a radical re-design of the A-pillar to improve performance with regard to wind noise and seal? I was thinking that if we can't get the real ones for a sensible price, then why not make the design simpler and use stock extrusions, and maybe improve that area of the car whilst at it. Here is my idea:

Image

This is the current door. The red represents a pink M100 and the bronze the tinted glass. The black triangle is the part where the wing mirror attaches. This has a vaguely structural plate inside.

Image

Here is the idea: Onto the strongpoint where the mirror attaches, I would bolt a fabricated aluminium plate welded to a piece of aluminium U-section. This would be painted (or anodised) black and filled with a rubber U-section large enough to accept the window glass. The A-pillar seal could then be replaced with a simple rubber edge which accepted the aluminium channel. The seal would be better owing to the increased pressure that the aluminium support would provide and door glass stability would be improved immeasurably.

With the door closed, it would be hard to spot the difference; when open with the window down, there would be a short section poking upwards which may not be to everyone's taste, but isn't without precedent in the car design world.

To produce this would require the following:

- Selection of a stock extrusion for the A-pillar.
- Selection of a U-section to seal the window.
- Fabrication of the channel and mounting plate.

All of these items are a little beyond me presently! Anyone reckon this is feasible?

Woh, if you have a solution there's about 500 owners who would like to know what you have used, from where and how much.

A PILLAR SEALS

Postby John Tsakas » Tue 01.04.2008, 15:02

Be passion my friends
I''ll take the car of my mechanic tomorrow. I'll send you the
photos that i promise you.
My father help me to fix these seals. We have a company that we take
seal and use it in a lot of things most for newspapers. So i told him
to take two seals and make one fiiting to the carrier seal of our elan.
The seal now it's the same and in upper and down corner it fits perfect
where the roof going down. The whole thing cost us about 80 pounds for
the one side. If you like it i'll tell him to make some of them in lower
price.

SEE YA ;-) ;-)

STANDBY>>>>STANDBY

mikeydude is working on a very convincing solution for the seals. I had a chat with him at Donnie and he showed us his project.

Basically he has a an overlay that goes on were the A seals are, then an optional flap that the windows rise into (he uses a remote to lower the windows automatically). Even if your A Seals are crap (like mine) this can be overcome.

The rubbers are easily available, low cost and UV resistant.

Mike said once he has sourced an appropriate glue he will post his results.

Watch this space. :D

Hi
Of cource we would like to see his project. But also we need seals that
difficult cut and the look to be like the original. I thing it is more
important to have the seals for the look of the car to be nice, without
using automatic mechanics and extra parts to the door. We want to put it
once for 10 years . I thing the most people need seals to be fit easily.
I'' send you photos and tell me.

Every help from anyone is needed!!
