No, Gazza, not as they are, because they have a flange with 2 bolt fixing that bolts onto the flange on the pipe LGM had made. Having a set of the carbon pipes myself, i know the only means of connection is by a hose, & unless they do the BOV with a different connector that just goes to a hose, perhaps LGM or Ekapol would know if they do ?

So...... an idea I was toying with was also doing a matching pipe for the inlet side of the turbo. Question is what would everyone like? Would having it mate to the "trash can" be preferable or would it be better to attempt to build an entirely new system using a different filter element? This is now the question I pose. Thoughts?

Intake Pipe

Marie,
You temptress.I would like an entirely new system using a different filter element, and incorporating the recirculation pipe from the Greddy BOV.

Marie, put me down for whatever you end up with. :D
My thoughts are that the trash can is probably as effective as anything else, but it don't look pretty, so if the majority wish to have a complete new system, thats fine by me. I personally think if we went that way, we would want an enclosed filter system to keep that cool air where it belongs, i don't favour the open K&N type filters, especially under our bonnet ( where there's not a lot of room for the hot air to escape ! ). I doubt if these filter systems actually offer anymore measurable performance, but they do look good.
I would be happy with a straight swap for the original pipe, but will go with the majority

i have a open filter sitting in the hot air bay... not my invention
anyway i would swap it strait away for a cold air inlet system
basiclly going back to the OEM design but with better quality stuff
like performance wise it will not make any difference but i would dump the trash can pure for the esthetic of the engine bay and replace it with something ...well anything other than....

the way i see it is that a inlet system can only improve a very limited amount of power so i say make it look FAST

I would be interested in a new pipe and trashcan.

I thought the trashcan worked ok, but just looked bad?
How about a polished replacement to use the stock filter (or K&N 2360  )

Intake Pipe

I seem to recall one of our US members working on a s/s or aluminium trash can a while back, was it Dave M ?

From what Marie explained to me, the open filter system don't actually use the whole filtering surface to draw in the air but more towards the area near the pipe from all the direction including the hotter air from the top.

That was why it makes sense to me to change to the one she's using which draws the air mainly from the bottom just like the factory trash can. You also don't have to worry about not having the new filter in the future as long as they still have Honda cars running on the road. Getting a new one every year still costs less than few quarts of oil.

The lines on the filter box also match the lines on the sparkplugs cover... :-)

It would be nice to have something custom made along the line of this idea but still that we can use the filter that we can cheaply buy from just about anywhere.

Aha, now you're talking! What Honda is it off, and what element do you put in it?

Gazza, you would need to make a flange out of carbon fiber and resin it to your existing pipe. You should be able to the use the Greddy BOV after that.

On to the "new" intake format.

Option A: (most viable) build a replacement pipe for the current rubber monstrosity.

Option B: (Ive thought alot about this one) completely redesign the whole box but building a pipe that would work with the stock turbo as well as after market would be an interesting challenge as the box I would like to mimic is the one I currently have in my car....... Interesting dilemma. I was also thinking about doing one similar to the Iceman or AEM intake's. Downside is that they may not look all that appealing and would still use a K&N filter element which I'm not thrilled about. I would probably get the air from behind the intercooler as this would provide a shorter charge run and reasonably cool air. Because of the size of the stock turbo's inlet I'm limited as to pipe size. More to come

The filter box is from a 92-95 Honda Civic. Any wil do as they are all the same. They have a 3" outlet. The stock turbo's inlet is ...... 1 3/4"? Filters are cheap and plentiful. the boxes can be had from a breaker fairly cheaply. I'd rather use a paper filter element than a K&N. Whats interesting is there was a study done by an independent firm and they're findings where that a new paper element filtered just as much as a K&N. its only when it gets dirty does the K&N prevail. I need to find the study.

just my 2p ive bought a pipercross viper, its a cold air intake filter, which im going to be trying to fit, along with a BOV recurc point before the filter. this seems like the easiest solution.

 , just thought the only reason want to change this is because its ugly, not because it isn't efficient. Might have a look later, see if you could get Lotus badge on it :?
