I compare my elan to every mx5 i see one the road and i get a warm fuzzy feeling inside. A cruel stabbing feeling in my wallet too but i dont care!

i always loved this car, but to have a young lady walk upto me and say nice car want to take me for a spin? within the first week of owning in realy clinched the deal.

I have been fortunate to drive the car that you mentioned and owned a V6 ford Couger at the time I got my Lotus, you may say that the Couger is heavy for the Engine lack power but it could still get you there quick. However the true measure of the Lotus was gained the first time I took her out for a run no car that I have owned after I drove it as produced the rush that I had, after returning home I was shaking so much that I could not even lock the garage properly, it may never happen again but it was the best buzz that I have ever known.

Its funny how posts from 3 years ago suddenly come back to life. But, since we're being nostalgic and all (and only just meandering from topic).....

The first time I aw the Elan was at the 1990 auto show in Toronto. the car wasn't on sale in North America yet and all they had on display was a UK model. I had been looking at cars all day. I had purchased a Toyota Supra turbo (which I quite liked) a few years ago and was planning on my next car in a year or two. I walked up to the Lotus display and literally stopped in my tracks. There a re few cars I've seen that I've instantly fallen in love with. In 3 seconds I was all over this car and had decided I would get one no matter what. Now, $62K CDN was a lot of money bacj then and I hadn't figured that part out yet but..........I knew this was the car I HAD to have.

I finally test drove a slightly used one in early 1992 and my feeling was the same as yours Jim. I was nervous as hell, sweaty palms and all. And I was just driving on the city streets at 60 KPMH! It was the biggest rush I'd ever had driving a car. In the spring of 93 I got one, sold it 3 years later and bought another in 2006. Its the most fun I've EVER had in the "front seat" of a car.

I loved my Supra at the time but there was simply no comparison to the thrill the Elan provided. I sat in (but never drove) the Miata and it simply wasn't the same at all. The Miata was a Japanese car. The Lotus was an exotic car. I didn't need to drive the Miata to know the difference. It was obvious.

I had a 1992 Miata for 10 years simply because I couldn't find an Elan in the market back then in 1996.

They are both very reliable as a daily driver.

Just that Elan has the whole lot more of everything, much bigger grin on my face, roughly 1200% more fun factor.

Elan has a much bigger trunk space. Bigger center console storage. A lot of Lotus-ness that come with the car will never stop surprising you, like "what the *** they were thinking when they were designing this thing", then you'll be like.. hey I can even go faster into this corner, etc.

Better gas mileage than a Miata, if you just drive like a person with no hurry.

Have LEC members driven Miata (NC) 3rd gen. MX-5? Particularly the 2.0 6-speed one.
I have not the chance yet.
