A 10mm spanner (or is it 11mm?) to undo the battery clamp positive terminal.

Alternatively you can just unplug the multiplugs from the ECU itself, but this isn't the recommended method (however most of us do it that way).

Joop you can shorten the re learns for some of its settings in the engine management system by steady cruising in 4th gear at 40 MPH

Paul it looks like you don't have a small fuse link for the radio and powering the ECU when removing the disconnect for security reasons

Now not being able to remember the difference between 11 and 13mm is one thing, but I really don't understand that at all! Am I going senile? :?

I'm not sure what advantage bypassing your cut-off would offer either - apart from not having to keep re-programming the radio.

Please enlighten me, because I think I've completely missed the point on both of the above - sorry! :bonk:

I dont use the switch for security, just for isolation purposes when carrying out any works.

But your right, when I power back up I do have to re-tune the radio each time. It's not a difficult job though; I just have to press the AT button once. But i'd rather the switch isolated ALL the electrics in the car when doing any works (which it does :-D )

and presumably it is to stop the battery discharging during periods of non-use, which means you want to disconnect everything !

I remember reading something along those lines a long time ago (but can't think where so it would be useful to be reminded and stick it in the Wiki). I guess it's to do with the ECU re-learning the key engine parameters but it may only apply to closed loop.

Neil the first is self explanatory, the second if for security reasons you remove the screw to disconnect the battery, but, have a link with a small fuse all the systems stay powered up eg. alarm, radio ecu but if some one tries to hot wire the car, the load from the starter would blow the small fuse and result in a dead power supply to the whole car
