OK I've got a couple of ideas for the shift light but I obviously need to find a decent tacho signal. Where did you pick yours up from Ailwyn?

Before I embark on this and buy in some development parts, how much are you expecting to pay Matt, Omnipotent boy and Phil? Also, is anyone else interested?

I think (pretty sure) I picked it up from the VSS coming out of the instrument cluster, but I can check on the weekend.

I'd be interested, I quite often hit the limiter on track as the other noise and helmet changes the aural experience significantly. There are a number of off the shelf options available PNM engineering had some neat ones on their stand at Donington.

I white/grey wire comes to mind as once i had to test the wire when the rev counter packed up on Pinky1, but it was 4/5 years ago :?

Nearly. White and Slate!

Probably the easiest thing is to pick up the three rev counter connections pass through an interface box and then take them off to a suitable panel mounting LED.

Is 1cm diameter too big?

It will take longer to develop but do you want it to change from green to yellow to red as you approach the redline?

How about this for a 1cm diameter LED?

Not for me off or on/red: Off until approach the redline and up to the limiter. I'd like it on as a warning rather than a nanny telling me when to change gear :-D

If you are talking about the size of the LED how about ~5mm RED will show up nicely on my white dials.

White dials will probably want a silver bezel then:

How about a 5mm diffused LED, like the one on my Clifford alarm
with no bling just pushed through a hole, just big enough and glued to the dash on the back with a hot glue gun?

Or how about something connected to your helmet?

500V up your manhood should get you to change gear. :smt044

What ever is easy for you Geoff, will this be adjustable or will it be set to 7k revs?

Agree with phil just a nice little LED poking through the instrument cluster

I guess that would depend on how much you wanted to pay Geoff? It's going to be a lot easier to have a fixed point, even if Geoff does it individually, than building all the extra bits needed for you to set it yourself.

It could be either (depending on how I design it). I think the better option is to have it adjustable, as you probably want to tweak the value to suit your driving style/use.

The LED is academic really - you can choose whichever size/style/colour you want. :D

I`m all for keeping it simple, if you decide to go for a fixed point then what would be the best setting? 6.5k :?

OK. I brought a portable 'scope home to make life easy....... NOT. Battery is shagged and won't even run off mains. Down with the big beast from the loft and the tacho signal is ideal. :D

I'm going the easy route (analogue) rather than digital as my brain's not up to software at the minute. I think I can get quite good notional accuracy (I'll check it out on the bench and on my car anyway) and should be able to give you a variable setting from (say) 6500 to 7000RPM.

Thinking of Ailwyn's HUD, I'm wondering if a narrow angle high intensity LED shining up from the dash cover would reflect sufficient back off the windscreen so that the warning is directly in your line of sight. Any thoughts A?

I should have a couple ready for Phil and Nige at CC to try out. When is your next track day Jay?
