My car won't start

I can't get my car to start by turning the ignition. The battery is fine and I've checked all of the fuses. When I turn the key to the third position, the engine does nothing.

I've posted a previous thread, thinking it was an electrical problem with the immobiliser but some people I have spoken to think that it might be something else because I can actually bump start the car and it works fine.

Can anybody help me? Its gonna cost me more than £50 just to get an auto electrician to show up, so I'd rather get a diagnosis first...

How does your immobiliser work? If it stops the starter from turning (as opposed to stopping the fuel or spark), then this would be the case.

Anybody know of a way to safely hotwire the starter to rule out a starter fault, or does it need to be taken off for bench testing?

I'm not too sure how it works but I do know that the fuel pump still works when the car is immobilised, just the starter doesn't work.

Then I would image that it's your immobiliser is causing the problem.

Persevere with that thread and I'll lock this one to save duplication.
