What plugs do you swear by/at?

I've got to try to sort out my awful fuel economy, and plugs seems like a good place to start. The job needs to be done this weekend, which rules out overseas supply. But the choice at Halfords is a bit bewildering.<br><br>I could play it safe and stick with the standard NGKs/Boschs/Champions at around £11-£13, or I could push the boat out a bit and go for the Champion EON1s at £20, in the hope that they'll give a better bang for the buck.<br><br>What is the general consensus? Have you had any particularly good or bad experiences with any of the above (or any others for that matter)?<br><br>Ta!

The only plug I had fail was a Champion - mind you that was a LONG time ago, but I still tend to avoid them.

Go for the 3 prong type hehehe  :P<br><br>Think i fitted NGK`s. <br><br>If the gap is set right i wouldn`t think no matter which new plugs u use u won`t see much difference in fuel consumption  ???

I'm sorry but there's only one thing you want a spark plug to do & that's spark.<br><br>If your getting a good enough spark to ignite the air/fuel mixture, then that's all you need it to do.<br><br>Why waste your money on a triple spark plug, when one spark is good enough ?<br><br>If you're questioning whether your spark is good enough, then check the gap, then start to look at the HT leads & the coil pack. Both coil pack & HT leads faults can lead to a weak spark.<br><br>For reference, I use bog standard NGK plugs as per the manual & my car turns in a half decent MPG, as well as flying nicely with one of Alan's chips installed.<br><br>Darren<br>~~~~

[smiley=1poke.gif]<br><br>There is 'supposed' to be a placard in the engine area that lists the gap.  There was a definite thread on this last year = search for it.<br><br>Always gap your plugs; even if they are supposedly already set -- you will see why when you check them.  The old gap will be wider than the starting gap, so yours probably need to be reset.<br><br> <br>

I deserve it, Doug...  I can hear my dad saying, "if you are gonna do a job, do it right!"  taking three seconds to gap each plug out of the box does not do anything if you are setting the wrong distance...<br><br>Hence asking, as I was off by a bit.  I had searched, and not turned up anything under "plug gap" except this thread.  Sure it is on here somewhere, though...  Asking is the lazy-man's approach!  :-[<br><br>However, yes, .8mm or .0315" seems to do the trick.<br><br>Thanks Doug, John, and Dico, quick fix tonight!

We actualy did a dyno run on an Esprit and saw 5 hp going to Denso Iridium plugs alone. I have them for years and they show now signs of wear and the car starts much better.

just fitted NGK iridium plugs BKR6EIX £8.03 each from www.spark-plugs.co.uk the car seems more responsive but then one plug had discolouration orderd deliverd the next day good service
