Steve,
when you say 'stopped working', is the window motor still working?

If not, have you tried the fuses, switches and relays associated with it?

CLICK HERE FOR ELECTRICAL DRAWING ON WIKI

good luck.

Unfortunatly the fueses, switches and relays are ok i can hear the relays clicking i think the regulator might be jammed as the cable is a bit slack in the middle slider.

so i think i will need to get the regulator out. :?

Window

I had the same problem with mine. You just have to keep removing door pieces that hinder removal. Eventually you can spread the door fiberglass enough to remove. All the switches and fuses were good. The problem was that water got into the motor and ruined it and also rusted the adjusting cable. I am looking for a new motor. Isuzu, Lotus , GM, Toyota the window motor has to have been made for another one of those brand of cars.

We know from write-ups on this site, that the same motor was used on the Peugeot 405 rear window, but a different regulator. you probably have to go to ebay.co.uk to find one. As I said, there are write-ups explaining how to hook one up. check the repairs link at the top of the page, then look under common repairs for window regulator repair.

I know I also recently saw another reference to another stateside GM vehicle that used the same motor, but I can't for the life of me remember which car or where I saw it.

Normally, if the motor goes bad, you have to replace it by replacing the entire regulator, because it comes as a complete unit. When I called recently to check the price, I think Dave Bean Engineering had them, and they run a little over $400.

Thanks, I have been looking at the window regulators on Ebay trying to find one that the motor was the same. At $400 though I will rewind the motor or modify the assembly myself.

Thanks again

There are usually a couple of the Peugeot ones on the UK ebay site. You might be able to get one of them. I've gotten a couple of things from there. You just have to clarify the seller will ship to the US first, or that it says they will in the listing.

Alternatively, you could find a parts store that will let you compare. I recently needed to replace my blower motor, and a local O'Reilly's autoparts store clerk spent about an hour and a half going through their big parts book looking at pictures trying to find one that looked like ours. Ultimately, we came upon one for a '91 Mitsubishi Eclipse that looked just like it. I took a chance and ordered it for $54 (not really a chance, since I could return it). It turned out to be a spot-on match except that the two electrical connectors had to be swapped with the ones on the OEM. The OEM was, let's say, WAY more expensive than that through Dave Bean.

It might be tougher to match the window motor by pictures, but it might be worth a shot.

How did water get into the motor? It just seems to me like that would be tough because of the angle it's mounted.

Steve,
Don't despair!
It may not be as bad as a burnt out (and very difficult/expensive) assembly to source and replace.
It sounds to me like a snapped cable, in which case have a very good read of all 4 pages of this thread. If you're competent enough to have got this far, then you're resourceful enough to get to the end and save yourself a pile of money! :D
Striking fear into the hearts of duplicate posts everywhere...! :P
