Retrim choices

Postby Benmac » Mon 10.12.2007, 21:14

Starting to think about getting the seats and door cards retrimmed. They're in decent nick for their 105k miles but at the same time they show it and could well do with a spruce up. Just wondering what colours etc. Does anyone have any decent pictures and would any of these options be dreadful? The car is silver and currently has the dark grey perforated leather.

Option 1: Replace basically like for like (dark grey)
Option 2: Like for like but with light grey piping on the seats
Option 3: Dark grey outer with lighter grey on the inner sections (my first Elise basically had this and it looked fab)
Option 4: Same as 3 but with alcantara in the middle
Option 5: Same as 4 but with black alcantara
Option 6: (my current favourite) Replicate the red or yellow banded leather seats with matching doorcards as per many SEs but with light grey instead of the bright colours to keep with the monochrome nature of the car.

I really like what Michael (kmckmc) has done with his interior.

SEE HERE

His trimmer can supply the covers only, so that they can be either be fitted by yourself (if you're up to it) or by a trimmer over here.

I'm thinking of getting these myself, but I'll need to research whether the SE and S2 seats are exactly the same. kmc's were made from an S2 pattern I believe.

Retrim Choices

Postby Dazzlovski » Sat 12.04.2008, 12:13

Hi Guys/Gals
I've been away from this forum for a few years now and have to confess have been using my Elan much less than I should.... (long story)

However, I too feel its time to smarten up the interior now, and although I have some ideas, do the LEC members have names of any re-trimmers in the UK (preferably North) that have been tried and tested ?
I've read the posts regarding Hethel retrims, but there must be some out there that are just as good.
I've googled 'auto re-trimmers' and there are plenty to be found but I'd be happier with a recommendation.

I'm also wanting the carpets doing as well.

I bought a new pair of lotus yellow carpets (not mats) a few years ago and never got round to fitting them. As I plan to change the seats and carpets to a more sedate Grey/Black/White combo these will be up for grabs when I have this sorted.

Any info would be much appreciated. ! ;-)

Roger,

I think it was done in Bromsgrove and the car used to belong to a Graham who lives fairly locally to me.

Dazz

It's not the North but this Bromsgrove lot are very good.

Hey, and that pictures even in their gallery:

Retrim Choices

Postby Dazzlovski » Tue 15.04.2008, 19:29

Hey Chaps,
I took your advice and contacted Bromsgrove Autotrimmers today and I have to say they were very helpful. They've done a few M100's before so were happy to talk £budgets over the telephone which is exactly what I needed initially.
Gave 'em a brief description of what I wanted, colours etc and they came back within an hour with a quote.
Next step, nip down there.. (not necessarily in the Lotus) and 'pick some skin' to cover the seats.
Not surprisingly , they say they do some work for/passed on by, P.Matty.

They're booked up for a little while yet (popularity is a good sign methinks), but if the price don't change too much when they have my exact spec' I'm having the lot done in June.

Thinking about going for a sedate Black/Grey, Leather/Alacantara look (see link above) maybe with white piping to match the car (?)... Black carpets, Alacantara door pockets, white piping.....

mmmm, choices choices.
Just need to gather a little more money together...

Retrim choices

Postby Dazzlovski » Wed 16.04.2008, 18:50

Hey Woody,

The price (without seeing the car/picking leather specifics etc) for;

2 x seats re-upholstered
Door cards
Pockets
gator
Carpets throughout

......@£800 + the VAT.
Ive seen posts here suggesting Hethel prices of £400+/seat alone, so maybe a bargain ?
Their work looks good, and I plan to pop in there early next week to have a butchers at the leather samples etc and firm up the price.

Will keep you posted.

Where in South Yorks? Well its a 'play on words really' , I live on the border of Notts/South Yorks not far from Clumber Pk.

Hi Paul,
When you say gold do you mean like this ??

...or perhaps something slightly less bling ?

(Just Joking, I think I know what you mean, something like the JPS Esprit I've seen on this forum recently.....Don't worry I'll be sure to ask..)

Hi Paul,
Been into Bromsgrove today and booked in my White Elan for some botox at the end of May :-)

As requested ,I asked them to show me their GOLD samples and after discounting some Hi-Viz yellows and the Norfolk mustard equivalents, there were two obvious candidates...

1) Yarwood Leather : Honey bee
2) Andrew Muirhead : Sunburst

I thought you may be able to get in touch with both suppliers of the leather and get some samples sent through the post ?
Excuse the pictures (cell phone), but here they are in low res form. First two are the "Sunburst',... second two are the "Honey Bee".

Pics don't do the colours justice and even as I'm posting them I can see some differences....but I think they're pretty to close to the Esprit IMHO.

Get some samples if you can, they're definetley worth considering.

Hope this helps

I have been down to these guys over the past week too, The guy there was wondering where all these elans were comming from.

Again we talked about a full retrim including carpets and flor mats in Leather and Alacantara (Alacantara being more expensive than leather at the moment) comming in around £800 + vat Fitted.
Drop the car and pick it up a little later with all new clothes fitted ready to go including any refurb of foams.

In the short term I am having the drivers seat repaired
I drop the car in on the 5th may they replace the worn panel, match up new piping and refurb the foam AND give all the leather a once over with a matching dye. I then pick the car up the next day an all for £65+ Vat.

BARGAIN ME THINKS

PS. I will do some pre and post pics next week

Hi Daz, thats brilliant , thanks for the effort, & those 2 golds don't look far off what i want. I might be missing something here ( usually do ! ), but do i contact Bromsgrove Autotrimmers for the samples ?

Retrim Choices

Postby Dazzlovski » Mon 28.04.2008, 23:11

Hi Paul,
From the samples they allowed me to browse through, I wouldn't have thought they had a surplus ones to send out (could be wrong) , which is why I made note of the tanners/suppliers names (Yarwood and Andrew Muirhead & Sons).
I've Googled both names and they both appear to have decent websites and contact details so I suspect either may be able to organize a sample to be sent direct to you.

Andrew Muirhead & Sons :0141 554 3724
Yarwood Leather : 01132 521014

Saying that, I'm also sure that if you contact Bromsgrove Autotrimmers they'd be happy to arrange this on your behalf, as they probably have regular contact with these suppliers, which may speed up the process.

Bromsgrove Autotrimmers : 01527 576643

They were very helpful, and would assume they'd welcome another Lotus related enquiry !

Hope this gets you closer to the results you're looking for !

Daz
