An absolutely miniscule amount of searching, and lo and behold, look what's revealed:

STRUCTURAL ROLL-HOOP

But hey, why change the habit of a lifetime?!?

Well pardon me for needing clarification and not having the same level of time others have to surf around on LEC...

Seems like your aggrivating attitude is still present in your posting. How inviting. :rantover:

So from what I understand here, the roll bar is a seperate fitting to the tonneau. Unless I get corrected, hopefully in a user friendly manner. So in that case Simon's picture shows both roll hoop combined with the additional fit of tonneau?

My understanding is that Simon is designing a tubular roll cage and, a non-structural double-bubble / roll hoop fairing to go with it.

I much rather the non-structural double-bubble / roll hoop fairing option as I dont like the idea of adding more weight, just for the odd chance I may take her on the track at some point in the future.

I also think the finish in the roll hoop fairing will look much better. IMHO of-course

Again it is a MUST that the softtop works.

I've developed this a bit further now, and I can probably clarify some of the queries.

There are 4 basic components, a structural roll-hoop, an aerodynamic/styled fairing for the roll-hoop, the 'bubble' rear deck and a clear screen between the hoops. They are intended to be used all together and still allow full use of the convertible top, or the hardtop can be fitted with just the hoops. It would also be possible to use just the deck without the fairing and/or the hoops.

I think that covers all the options :? Maybe a few pictures would help.

Of course, I think that it works best as the full package. :D

Don`t think you understand the concept, it`s not design just for the track and it may save your life one day  There`s been at least 2 members who have rolled there Elan and luckly walked away but one had to have skin graph to his head

Looking very good indeed. I do however think the first iteration of the double bubble and the way it integrated with the faired roll hoops looked even better as it was so much more integrated. However, I can see that there are probably some practical difficulties with that version which would make it difficult to retain functionality of the soft top. Some form of halfway house might be good though?

Simon, that fairing finishes it off nicely for me. I thought the hoops on their own looked too scrawny.

I'm coming ever closer to putting my name down for the lot. :-)

There have been some compromises for the sake of manufacturing practicalities and clearing the hood frame. I also made allowances for using the deck without the fairing but I think that the original styling concept still works pretty well.

Now that the design is approaching completion I will start investigating costs next week.

I kept a picture of Mike's rolled Elan .

I think the way the windscreen frame collapses is truelly frightening .

A roll bar is a must for anyone thinking of taking their Elan on a track.

Well the rollhoop is ready to go. I'm still trying to improve on the costs for the fairing and rear deck but the hoops work out at £595 which is a fair improvement on my original estimate.

Simon, thats really looking the part, it's a lot clearer to me how it mounts now and by having the hoops further forward than the LGM version you can get more height. The price is more attractive than your original estimate as well :) , I'm even more interested than I was before, can't wait to see the fairing and double bubble.

Simon, that looks great :smt023

Just a couple of questions
Will it be possible to sremove the battery with the hoops in place? and what about the access to the fuel filter?
