........I now feel a little happier about handing over £470 to Footman James!

One thing that I discovered along the way is that they are prepared to do an Agreed Value policy based on a Club Lotus valuation. Normally insurers won't look at this until the car is over 10 years old, so it's a bonus for S2 owners. :)

Hi Greg,

FJ charge me £340 for a limited 4500 miles a year. Excess is only £100 but I have a garage and am closer to 50 than 40 !!

Incidentally, Specialist Car Division (01277-206911) quoted me £283 for 5000 miles but had a £250 excess and required a cat. 2 immobiliser. Also, they needed Rambo to be put to bed every night in a locked garage even when away from my home address !!

If I didn't have a Golf GTi as my daily driver, I could transfer my full NCD to the Elan and FJ would charge me approx. £300 for unlimited mileage

Maybe there's something to be said for getting old ? I've even still got hair and teeth !!
Insurance is as individual as the people that buy it, that said, I moved from Carole Nash to Footman James and saved over £120, so I now pay around £300 for collectors car, with limited mileage etc etc.

What I would say is, if you've saving money, check on the small print i.e Footman James has circa 50+ post codes that you can't leave your car parked in, there's also something about leaving it over night, not locked up etc.

My previous insurance (before Carole Nash) was with the Lloyds, it cost circa £500 but you could park where you wanted, do as many miles as you liked etc etc.

Happy shopping.
Darren
~~~~
footman james-
car is insured when parked at home 10pm-6am if garaged. however, if left on driveway, not insured for malicious damage.
park it away from home overnight, i.e at work/outside pub etc and its insured!
explain that one?
Quite simply that when you are away from home, you can't be expected to turf someone else out of their own garage so you can put yours in. If you are at home, you are doing the best you can, security-wise, if you tuck it up in the garage. Conversely, you are not doing your best if you leave it out at home therefore they will not cover you. Seems fair to me.
;D I am surprised no one has tried Classic Line 01455 639000. I pay approx £160 per Elan as I have two. Before I had the two Elans I had an Esprit Turbo at £180 and the Elan at £160. Mikeage limited to 5000m per year each vehicle agreed.
Got to be worth a try.
When I insured the secound Elan I ever owned a few years ago now I came up against the problem of the car being too young to be classed as a classic but Classic Line sorted that problem out.
Cheers Mike
£1,245 (full comp)
£650 XS
Based on 3years no claims aged 22 with licence for 5years.
Admiral work out quite well for us *younger* drivers. Even Tesco/Elephant wanted £1,400
Being under 25 classic insurance isnt an option, neithers a 3 figure quote! Most of the companys discussed in this thread wouldn't insure anyone under 25 on an Elan, and it was either Churchill or Direct Line that won't insure anyone on an Elan under 30!
Hope you all feel happier with your silly lil quotes :P
The premium price is great...couldn't live with the mile limitation though.
Broker direct just quoted my an additional l£148 per year on my SAAB 900's price, comp no mileage limit, £200 xs. Confused over £200 more, although the wifes points dont help.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
