Can I wash the boot carpets?

Postby TJi » Mon 12.05.2008, 13:06

The screenwash bottle leaked and my carpets have picked up a bit of a musty smell while the car was in storage. Can I just throw them in the machine or will this cause them to shred?

Can't you just use 1001 or something or just spray it with a hosepipe ?

Jay

They're card backed in places, I don't think your average Indesit (or even a Berlin Bosch) will handle that!

Just give it a good soaking with the hosepipe and hang it on the line to dry and it should be fine

Try Febreze or Ooust to get rid of the smell.

Don't put it in a washing machine - you'll knacker both the carpet and the washing machine. It'll become so heavy it probably won't spin properly.

Try what the others suggest, particularly with small amounts of water/detergent and leave in the fresh air for as long as possible.

Failing all that, SJS list a boot floor carpet (E100V0094F) for £21.27 exc VAT and postage. Phone Steve on +44 1363 777790 for further info.

Root Cause!

Don't treat the symptoms treat the cause. Only ever half fill your windscreen water tank!

I take it this is one of those "character quirks" of owning a British sports car then. Nice to know nothing's actually, y'know, wrong with it. :-D

Re: Can I wash the boot carpets?

Postby RayD » Fri 23.07.2010, 20:57

Just remind me ....

Shortly after I bought the car I had two footwell, and one boot carpet made from the remnants of a bathroom.

Bathroom carpet.jpg

Under the new boot carpet there’s the almost solid felt material with the sound insulation stuck to it ...

Original Felt Carpet.jpg

Here’s the bit I can’t remember ... Was there a carpet there originally, made from the same grey pile carpet that goes up the bulkhead? If so I’m buggered if I know what I did with it ... or whether I used the felt one for the template.

Thanks
