Thanks Geoff. Getting it into line of sight is key. so my inclination would be not to put it into the instrument cluster as this is not directly in line of sight when driving on the track.

That would be closer to your line of sight, so surely better for what you want it for?

Where did you get that quote from :smt017

With an LED in the cluster it should catch your eye ie you don`t to look direct at it. when i`m on track some times the brake light comes on under heavy braking and you soon spot it out of the corner of you sight so think the LED will be ok. Binical does sound good but just worried if the LED might be a bit blinding as it`ll be directly in your sight

Progress report: Having ironed out the bugs, we have some working disco lights operating from 2500-7500 RPM for Nige with a bright red rev limit light to go on top. The disco lights (but not the rev limit light) dim to a preset level when the sidelights are switched on.

Tried to solder the connector loom in permanently but couldn't find a convenient ignition supply - hope Paul W has some splice connectors spare.

Perfect timing! My dash is off and ready to build the new one (and Monty's CF bits while I'm at it). The Cat looks like sh1t right now! A wiring nightmare with 2 alarm systems awaits my gung-ho enthusiasm and ignorance :-D

It's a prototype and hopefully we can get Nige on track to get some feedback. Lights can easily be left off if they're not needed, but at the moment there is a yellow LED at ~2500 (off boost), green LEDs at ~3000 up to ~6000, then yellow, orange and finally red at ~7000.

If you don't want the disco lights, then I leave that part of the circuit out and you'll have just the single LED when you hit ~7000RPM.

Will it be easy enough for you to change when the LEDs illuminate?
ie yellow at 6000, orange at 6500 and red at 7000 :-D

Will it still be possible to fit the unit in the instrument cluster?

We didn't manage to get the shift light fitted yesterday

, so no feedback. I think Geoff was having a few problems with the unit and although we saw each other and had a chat last time I saw Geoff he was fixing a laptop. I/ve had an inspiration for a dashtop mounting as I think it could be made interchageable with my speed camera detector (an old Geodesy) as I've just bought 3 at a bargain price on ebay with an intent to canabalise them. I'll communicate this to Geoff and see if he thinks it will work.

Sorry people, CC did my neck in and the weather's been bad so no chance to check why it didn't work on Saturday.

Phil, you can have it as big as you want - a quick look and I see that I can get them with 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 20, 50 and 120mm diameters and anything in between! I'd think 5mm is about right though.

Now, what colour would you like? Red, yellow, green, blue, amber, clear, ultra white, cyan, double hetero red (don't know if I can say that but what the hell), emerald green, orange, soft orange, red-orange, ultra super blue, warm white, ........... :-D

5 mm in double hetero red :-D
