MAP Sensor and Halls Sensor - routine replacement or not?

Hi all you Elan Guru's,

The BRG had a MAP Sensor and Halls Sensor replaced around 40.000 odd miles ago in 1998. I bought a Halls Sensor the Lotus sale, and I gather MAP Sensors are not hugely expensive (around £20 ish?).

The BRG is running fine and there is wisdom in "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but then there is also wisdom in "a stitch in time, saves being broken down at the side of the road"

What would be your proverbial advice and where is a good place to get a MAP Sensor? - even if I don't fit it, I would like to have one as a standby, I know Rock Auto do them - anywhere in this country, I found a discussion thread a while ago on this but can't relocate it?

Also any other sensors or bits you would, (or wouldn't) replace as a matter of course. It's a non Cat car and I've done a recent B and C service.

I am looking do doing some long trips later this year.

Already done that, but was wondering if anyone knew of a cheap supplier - otherwise it is off to partco/GM dealer for me.

Also, would you replace it as a matter of routine, or wait until is starts to go wrong?

I've got a few spares O2, HES, CTS (which I MUST get round to putting in the car). I intend to do periodic ElanScan runs to check for changes which might indicate something is on the way out. Otherwise, you'll often get an error flag, so they should be relatively easy to troubleshoot provided you've got CheapScan in the car. I've also got free AA roadside cover from the bank in case its dark and snowing.
