Advice/suggestions

I'll try not to prattle on to much.

Car Has a BBR upgrade.

Had a misfire about this time last year.Hal sensor fitted after paperclip test. New leads, plugs and coils replaced also. Car ran fine.

Misfire over last few weeks - similar to last time, that is to say it was misfiring under heavy load, but no CEL on dash. couple of weeks ago I replaced the Thermostat (it had been stuck open) and finally fitted my samco hoses.

I had ordered a CTS incase it was also partly to blame for the misfire.

Fired car up and on idle is pretty rough, but idles at 950.I did not fit the CTS at this point as the CTS in place, along with the thermostat appeared to work fine however shortly after firing the car up the CEL appeared on dash, paperclip test reveals code 41. Hal ordered.

Previously I was able to accelerate without a misfire, as long as I was not to heavy with my foot.It still pulled reasonably quickly.

However today I noticed a loss of power. I can floor it and it will not misfire. The turbo gauge peaks at 0.6, previously it would go to the top of the scale. It almost runs like I would imagine a non-mod elan would.

I am a bit puzzled. Could the Ecu be limiting the boost?

I was told it had a BBR on purchase. Tried to locate it,not really sure what I am looking for.

As I say it was more powerful but misfired if I was a bit eager to get from a to b.

Now no misfire but the power is reduced.

CEL has been constant since I changed the thermostat and hoses.

Any suggestions or advice???

Stuck Dump valve. Cleaned and greased. Car runs a lot better. Slight stutter/misfire. Not sure if it's still the dump valve.Seems to be.

However noticed on Elan Scan the boost was only hitting 0.75 and it should be 0.92 for the BBR upgrade. I know the dump valve can open early and stop full boost being achieved.

My next upgrade will be a chip/motherboard from ESM and I am eager to have the car boosting fully. What Dump valves have people fitted that don't open to early and allow the chip to work properly?

0.92 is for the gti upgrade. i think there is varying degrees. so 0.75 might well be right.
Jim Clark S2 - 1/12. The one with the Yellow spoke wheels . No 613 on dash (pushed in to factory in wrong order 615 on tub)

I'm sure on the old site Ryan/RTM100 (previous owner) stated it was a confirmed 0.92, maybe he was wrong. What your saying would make sense then as Elanscan shows 0.75.

Makes me wonder if I actually want or need any more boost. Car was put on a rolling road/dyno and was putting out 219 bhp.

Still the motherboard and chip allows for different settings....

Has anybody with Alan's chip, a dump valve and elanscan noticed any loss of boost due to the early opening of the dump valve?

Alan mentions it as a possibilty on his website.

I think the BBR clips the voltage to the ECU so it does not go into fuel cut off - you only see something like 0.75 bar on Elanscan but in reality you are getting something like 0.9 bar. If you look at the graph it will be flat at the top where it clips.
I ditched a Bosch BOV a while ago as it started to open at about 0.65 bar

That also makes sense. It's just a flat line on elan scan at 0.75.

The boost and performance did seem a bit extreme for only 0.75.The needle goes right off the scale pretty fast.

I have a forge motorsport dumpvalve, and apart from sticking recently it would appear to be working fine.

What I really need to do is uninstall the BBR, get chipped and then Elan scan will be able to measure the boost accruately.

What dump valve did you end up going with?

I didn't. I wanted an OE look but couldn't get one to go above 0.7ish bar - also figured the engine had lasted all this time - 110k - without one, so it could go for a while longer. Besides I'm too old for all that woosh stuff

IIRC I've since seen something about a Bosch unit which still looks OE - mine was an Audi titi - but goes to circa 0.9 bar - Saab or Porker maybe??

Paul, the BBR should allow your car to boost to .94 bar, according to the info sheet i got from Kelvedon motors when i had one fitted to my old white car.
I was noticing a loss of power last year, & that turned out to be the dumpvalve, it was a Bailey DV30. At first i just removed the dumpvalve & replaced with a blanking plug, whereupon the power returned, & have since fitted one of LGM's exellent intake pipes with the Greddy dumpvalve, & have had no problem
JPS M100 was built from bare chassis up to create one off M100 in the mould of JPS Team Lotus
