Heater selector problem

Postby m100mac » Mon 04.08.2003, 13:30

I have a problem with the heater selector control on my elan. Fan speed controller is ok, its the one that selects windscreen, face, floor vents - i'm sure you get the picture. Not too much of a problem at the minute as Birmingham fast approaches 100[sup][/sup]0. But SHMBO does tend to get chilly if it dips below mid 80's
any ideas?? ;D

Mr Mac,

more than likely that the pipe from the engine manifold has come off, either under the foot well or off the actual manifold its self. ;)

Almost certain to be one of the vacuum hoses has come loose on the back off the selector, or failing that, there is one in the engine bay i.e just off the pendulum chamber. Er that is just to the right of where the boost sensor.

For your reference, the selector is off some sort of Volvo.

Hope this helps ?

Darren (in sunny Dudley).
~~~~~
Is the selector 'front entry' so to speak or is it a bit of a fiddle, dash out etc?? - havn't looked at it properly yet. First thing to have broken on it ( apart from gear cables )
So thankfully i'm not an expert on repairs.
You can get your hands on the internal pipework if you remove the radio. You'll see them quite easliy, there's a bunch of around 3 or 4 rubber pipes, cable tied together.
I'd have to back my learned friend Rob-B, in the fact that it's most likely to be the vacuum feed from the engine, that is, unless you've been messing with the radio ?
Hope this helps
Darren
~~~~~

I think this has happened to my car. have found the flapping pipe in the engin bay. it looks like it has a connector/nipple attached to it.

I cannot see where it is supposed to go. I don't suppose anyone could post a picture of where it should connect?

RJ

Pictures of that area are difficult, but stand at the front of the car and put your hand about a third of the way in from the right hand (throttle body) end of the back of the "DOHC" plenum. The nipple's there and points at the bulk head.

After fumbling for nipples in my engine bay with my eyes closed concentrating on a change in texture/gradient and maybe hardness, i had no joy. :( So after being bored with all that foreplay and not getting anywhere i looked closer and saw a rather short right angled pipe begging for something to be inserted. I stuck in my hose and the noises started to happen and she blew like a good 'un

Thanks for your tips, Sy
