I agree.

Nobody's perfect, but out there on the road you don't want to be seen to be taking the p!$$ out of rules that are there for everyone's benefit and safety.

Iffy spacing on a plate - so what?
And the same could be said for the individual transgressions of say, smoking a cigarette, leaving your foglamps on, forgetting to indicate, creeping up to 5mph over the speed limit, and maybe even taking a quick call on the mobile because you forgot your hands free kit. But pity the poor sod who finds themselves anywhere near some idiot who is doing ALL of the above! The more of them you do, the more unwanted attention you'll attract, and the longer you'll spend explaining when you get pulled up for it.

And more importantly, how would you feel if some tw@t doing any/all of the above drove into you/your car/your kids and then left the scene before stopping........

All valid points! Hmm........to do, or not to do, that is the question? I'll probably give them a go but carry my old ones in the boot just in case. But I still believe as they are fully readable, no misplaced letters/numbers, and in the correct colours. Unless P.C. traffic officer is having a bad day, he probably won't even notice, or at least give me the benefit of the doubt.

The colours are all wrong, the only thing that looks correct is the size off lettering and thats it, the ANPR may have trouble reading that plate and you will end up with a fine

When you do get pulled and you tell the officer that you`ve got the old plate in the boot then he will no that you fitted the plate knowing that it`s an illegal plate and you`ll be 30 pound lighter.

Monty. Which colours mate? The plate is black and white! it's a standard plate with a border (which is allowed, have a look around!) All right it has a hex background but it's not as noticable in the flesh. it's got lotus elan se, where others have the name of the dealership! and legal 3d lettering. the side lotus badge is a bit naughty but you can have a gb flag there. Why do think the ANPR would have difficulty reading it?My argument is it doesn't shout messed with plate, as it is easily clear to read. I'll put a dead legal one next to and see what you think then mate

the thing with those plates mainly like monty says is the ability of the ANPR recognising it......and I reckon thats due to the hex stuff in the background......

also you WILL get pulled.......

this is a common occurence with the elise boys in other forums....
a) for this kind of design
b) non std 'logos'
c) having the front plate slightly smaller (not a point in this case but you might get where its coming from....plod pulls you for anything and number plates are an easy target)

on my 67 elan they were originally fixed to the grill which is recessed under the bumper...I get pulled for this quite often...however when they see it fixed and take into account the age related regs for the car its all ok

Hmm! Well it seems I'm the only one who can't see the problem! Then again I always thought the kings new clothes looked fine!!!
I'll leave 'em on, if I get a tug then I'll swallow my pride, pay the £30.00 and stick em up on the garage wall....cheers

Yeah read that bit too. Then again you can get fined up to £1000 for littering in the street!!! I think you'd have to be really taking the urine to get that sort of bad deal.. End of the day I've bought them, they're fitted, and as it seems I've already been pulled and fined I may as well leave them on.

If you didn`t have the hex background and had the full black lettering you`d more than likely never get pulled, but that does stand out like a sore thumb

I`ve got a 3/4 front plate but it doesn`t have all the gimicks just white plate with black letters, i`ve not been pulled yet but one day it will happen and then i`ll have to go back to the huge standard plate lol

The leaflet says for all plates made after 2001, and those before should be similar. So with our cars we should be okay - how do they know we only just got the plate made up last week?

Before this change of rules (printed date on the above leaflet is 2007), weren't there 3 types of LEGAL font in the UK - Standard, 3D and one other??
