My drivers door window only goes up 2cms

Postby seamus » Thu 26.06.2008, 21:17

I parked up my 1990 se turbo last night.
The sun was out today and that just as well becuase the drivers window wont go up.
I have removed the top skin and the speaker and two toehr back panels.
The wire is not in the white roller on the middle bottom strut.
Is this the reason the window is stuck down, or is the motor broken/
How do I remove the motor. The window just comes up one side and does not come up at the back near the back of the car.

If the cable is missing from the lower spindle in the center hole, then I suggest trying the tips on replacing a broken pulley wire in this thread.

It could be the famous butterfly that holds the glass in place, if these snap they can jam on the window and push it in strange ways. My comments on butterfly repair are here.

Otherwise, I'd suggest checking that the sliders at the front and rear of the window are moving freely, since if one end is moving and the other is jammed the whole window will jam as soon as it gets sideways enough.

Best of luck, let us know what you find.

Hi there,
I think one end is jamming as the window is coming up one end and nothing at the other. So I think the slider at the back is stuck.
How to I test this?
thanks for you help

If you run your hand down the back of the slider where the window is stuck, you should see/feel a white rectangular piece of nylon that's attached to the window and runs up/down the channel.

It could be that this has come out the bottom or got stuck part-way. You may be able to compress it with your fingers and pop it back into the channel
