Fuel pump activation

Can anyone tell me if it is normal for the fuel pump to come on when I reconnect the battery without the igniton being on? On previous cars (non Lotus)it has only activated when the ignition was turned on.
Does this mean its using current when not in use or is there a pressure switch which turns it off?

That's wierd. You should only hear it prime when you turn the ignition on for 2 seconds before starting the car.

Moved as suggested by Dermot.

The fuel pump should not run without the ignition as you could end up with petrol being sprayed everywhere if you get a leak or have an accident that doesn't activate the inertia switch.

The fuel pump is controlled by the ECU but the supply is straight off the battery, via the inertia switch and relay. I would suspect that the relay (housed in the battery compartment) is sticking otherwise it's the ECU and/or wiring.

that might be a relay that you can swap with another on the car to test if the relay is the fault

Definitely worth a thousand words.
On reflection this problem has only occurred since the mechanic installed the battery isolator and remote charging terminals. He is small and built like a racing snake, so I shall return it to him together with the diagrams
for rectification. He is probably less clumsy than me as well.
