I'm looking to order a new cambelt and water pump etc from Rock Autos, could someone have a look at my list and see if it looks okay. I managed to pick up a discount code as well. What is the best postage method to use to try and avoid the import taxes.

You can save a couple of bucks - the water pump comes with a gasket, there's no need to get a seperate one.

The Felpro option doesn't come with a gasket but it looks like original equipment and even with paying for agasket is no dearer.
Sounds like prices in the USA have actually come down since Hegg ordered the bulk buy.

You might want to add:

GATES K040270 AUTOMOTIVE V-RIBBED BELT (STANDARD) (alternator) $6.97
GATES K060415 AUTOMOTIVE V-RIBBED BELT (STANDARD) (air con & power steering) $14.36 (or get one from SJ if you have no air con)

They fit - I replaced mine two weeks ago (except the water pump) and the car runs fine.

that looks exactly like the list I did from Rock...and as pinky says...it comes with the gasket......I was unsure at the time so rather than found out it didnt have one I thought it easier to add it in the order

Should I consider getting that done as well, I don't have aircon so it would be SJ's for that then.

If getting the Alt & PAS pushes the postage price up with RockAutos don`t bother ordering them as you can get them from your local motor shop. In the UK the Alt belt is a about a fiver and the PAS belt about a tenner.

Clan - if you haven't ordered already, I'm happy to come in with you in an effort to keep postage/customs charges as low as we can - economies of scale and all that.

For instance if we order 2 of everything and only 1 aircon/PAS belt for me, then the postage charges are only $112.53 as opposed to $104.56 for ordering 1 of everything

It doesn't look like you need the w/p gasket so I didn't include this in the pricing.

Let me know if you want to go this way? I can process the order with a VISA card if you wish and we could arrange a mutually agreed exchange (Knovckhill services ?) of parts and cash etc

Just to let you know, they do take paypal for an instant www order confirmation!

Might be of use if you don't want your visa card details in an insecure e-mail, and don't want to get up at stupid o'clock to speak to someone in a different time zone.

What a brilliant sevice from RockAuto in the States.

Oredered all the bits for a timing belt change for me and Clan last Wednesday, got e-mail confirmation that parts were on their way on the Friday in 3 deliveries via Fedex.

First delivery was on Monday, 2nd delivery today. Just awaiting the water pumps now - hopefully they will arrive tomorrow.

I checked the service history today and found the timing belt was done at 72k miles. That's good I thought it's only done 98k miles now. But looking closer 72k miles came up in 1998!!!!!! So it's in tomorrow for an ADL kit. Been told £230.00 all in (4 hours labour) so not to bad for the piece of mind.

Ah! I hope to add to this thread.

Blipi's recent service has pulled up a few things. Most annoyingly it was found she has a hole in her cambelt! It was only changed 4 years ago!

The garage have recommended I also go for tensioners and other bits.

Not being very technical or mechanically gifted, can I ask for advice on what actual bits are required or recommended and best place to find them? RockAuto's seem to be the supplier of choice here however I'm not needing the other water pump bits (or so I think...)

Far be it for me to tell you how to spend your cash (or JB's!), but if your going for the belt and tensioners, I would say throw in a water pump as well (its about 25 quid).

The bearings are likely to wear at a similar rate to the tensioners, and it all has to come off to change the pump anyway, and will take about an extra half an hour to change (mostly spent scraping the old gasket off!).

All just IMHO!
