Cambelt bits - Group buy

Postby Stef » Thu 10.07.2008, 09:09

Furthering other posts, would anyone else here like to group buy the Cambelt bits from Rock Auto and spread the cost of P&P?

Ideally I wish to get mine sorted before the Diamond Anniversary at Hethel.

Here is Rambo's post of what he bought with Clan:

Rambo wrote:Stef - if you've already posted on the cambelt thread you will see the parts and part no's listed (by JohnW I think ??) Anyway here's what I ordered from RockAuto.

I got 2 of everything (except the air con/PAS belt) for me and Clan.

Best to join up with a couple of others and spread the costs of postage and customs charges. Distribute parts to all as and when they arrive. I think there are currently at least 3 people looking for these parts so you could start a group buy ;-)

From the look of it the total cost would come to about £100 for the parts and £30 each for shipping....

If so, I'm in. Assuming all these parts are compatible across the board from N/A to S2...

I don't know about the N/A but I can't see why it would be different... there's only one belt to be aware of and that's the one that attaches to the A/C (the PAS belt IIRC)

I agree with Ailwyn: If you have A/C it just means a longer alternator/PAS belt.
If you have neither A/C nor PAS, then in theory it's a different (and much shorter) belt again, but that's not part of the deal is it?

The problem with RockAuto`s as soon as you add multipul items of the same part the shipping price still goes up so you don`t really get a better deal than ordering seperately :?

But i tell you what i am after and thats the thrust bearing for the clutch, if anyone is willing to do this i`ll get the details

 I wish, however at least it shall save others from ordering seperatly if they are in need for Rock Auto parts.

Monty, if you have the part details let me know and I'll add them onto my order. Let me know if you want to collect at Hethel or have bits forwarded.

I'll leave the group buy open for another week however then I best get ordering.

shipping from Rockauto's

If you order two items the cost of shippng does not go up by double, they seem to have a strange way of working out the shipping but it has something to do with if it is one location or multiple locations.
You just need to keep an eye on the shipping costs as you add items to the cart

Also for UK buyers you need to be aware that the chances are you will have to pay import charges

Righty

I have been in contact with Rock Auto's and provisionally ordered the following:

BECK/ARNLEY 1312115 (131-2115) Water Pump $ 50.79
GATES T169 Timing Belt $ 13.03
GATES T42001 Timing Idler $ 42.79
GATES T41027 Timing Belt Tensioner $ 46.79
Total = £153
The Alternator and PAS belt I understand is better to get from SJ's? Do I need to change these as well?

The Alternator belt is:
GATES K040270 Serpentine Belt $ 6.63
There does not seem to be a Gates code for the PAS without Air Con. Or is this the only bit recommended to get from SJ's?

Before I dive in and order, I thought I'd check this is all OK.

Cheers!

Sounds okay to me!

Just a couple of observations:-

Thermostat? (or are you getting one from Halfords)

The altenator & PAS belts are easily available over here - but if you need to get them posted, it's woth checking the pricing either way.

Lastly, I hope it's a typing error - but you're getting a crap exchange rate if it comes to £153

Stef - I've since sourced the 3 belts but since the cam belt is so cheap it makes sense to get another. Hence, Put me down for 1 of each of what you listed in your last post.

That is, if you're still planning on a group buy for this...

Dapinky - Don't be surprised if my numbers are wrong, I'm useless with them. Had calculations and numbers everywhere and kept editing my post! I think the 153 was total dollars order before postage which is $89

- also not sure on the thermostat... what's it for and will it need changing?

I can reduce postage by $30 if I don't order the pump. Has another sourse been found? There was originally a query if the Beck and Arnley pump was still available.

Foo- No problems matey. I shall oredr 2 of everything on the list! Will you be at Hethel for collection?

Finally, Rock Auto have been great so far, very helpful. They are also querying if they are the right parts for the car as they are not listed for the M100. After explaining it's an Isuzu engine they have confirmed the bits suit an Isuzu Impulse of the same year. I'll finalise my order when all is checked and confirmed here!

I suspect I'm not at Hethel this year but I'll cover whatever additional postage is needed.

It is the cheap bit which diverts hot water from the engine to the radiator once it gets up to operating temperature!

I think i paid less than 2 dollars for one when i got our stuff from US of A, but it didn't have a gasket with it (another 40cents!).

I know that they are available from Halfords / local motor factors but don't know the cost over here (probably not a huge amount). They won't list the elan at Halfords, but do list Isuzu, and according to this page on the Wiki it is the same as a mini 1000cc, so should be freely available.

For the cost involved in purchase, i would think it is sensible to fit a new one - there have been quite a few which have stuck recently (either open or closed) - and if the coolant system is being drained to fit a water pump, then it is as good a time as any to do the job.

I've bought an alternator belt, and the other belt (a/c power steering belt or something, both Gates) and a Beck/Arnley thermostat from Rockauto alongside the other bits you've ordered. Everything fits and works fine can't see why you'd go to SJ's for them. The part numbers are on wiki I think. Let's see... Yep here they are.

By the way Stef you don't actually need to change the thermostat. Dave suggests changing it because thermostat failure is quite common (well I had it) and it's very simple to change. (even I can do it) I believe ours is a 180 degree one... Yep, look here. :)

Happy shopping,
