Is this definitely symptomatic of a failing clutch, or may it be a matter of adjustment?

I'd check the smooth operation of the cable first, then any pivot points you can get to.

, well sort of:- I would replace the cable.
I had a heavy clutch on a Mk2 Cavalier...then the cable broke. It was very light with a new cable.
A cable may not be too expensive either. Well worth investigating at least.

Hi,
I used to have this heavy pedal thing, and now after I drove the car for an hour (pretty fine) , Gear came more and more difficult to change until it didn t change anymore, except by forcing it ?
Can it be the cables ?

Maybe, but it would be best to unfasten the ends of the cables from the selector box on top of the gearbox and try moving the gear lever around.
Then try moving the gear selector levers.
The stiffness will be in one or the other.
Striking fear into the hearts of duplicate posts everywhere...!
