Having managed (hopefully) to sort my reliability problems out, my hood's decided to part company with most of its frame mid test-drive!
I'm erring towards fitting my own, but am unsure if I can realistically do this myself (without making a pig's-ear of it) and exactly which hood to get (trim-tech are unfortunately on holiday for a fortnight!)? I've printed off the write up by KevH, but I'm concerned about making a decent job of it.
My car's a '90 - I've seen some posts claiming only S2 hoods are available and need some modification.
Has anyone had any experience of this and would anyone recommend any particular supplier?
All advice appreciated
Cheers

I think Clemo bought the last of them from Trim Tech.

My understanding is that Trim Tech have plenty of hoods and seals in stock as I'm hoping to get one later in the year.

Clan you are correct, Clemo bought the last of the complete hood and frame combo's, the hood and seals are still available from dean.

What about the S1/S2 issue - will there be any problem fitting one to my '90 car?
Hood off only for a bit anyway - Trim-Tech are on holiday until the 11th!

I had an complete S2 hood fitted to my H reg 1990 Elan SE after it was slashed on a trip to Europe - it was fairly well messed up after two days driving patched up with duct tape getting home.
That was back in 1993 and under insurance, fortunately.
No problems.

its a change of header rail.....the se rail is too short (compared with the s2)...and if you get a hood from trimtech then you can only buy an s2 hood.......so yes you'll need to sort your header rail
cheers

Does anyone supply a (decent) S1 hood, or am I better off sticking with Trim Tech?
Thanks

If you can wait I would, as Trimtechs hoods are good, if you buy an S2 hood they will supply the parts you need to fit an SE for free.

Sorry forgot to add if you mention this site you should get it cheaper!
I paid £500 for a hood and seals set about a month or so back.

I think I'll do that - I take it the S2 is an improvement on the original? Is the seal kit the 3 seals round each window and the one across the front? Mine aren't in bad order - would it be a false economy not to swap them as a matter of course? Do you know how much cheaper it'd be without them?
Cheers

Rich
you should have 5 seals.....one which is the header seal and goes across the whole of the front of the hood and turns the corner and heads back over the side windows by about 6~8"....then you have the intermediate seal and then the falling b post seal to the rear.......
if you have an se at the mo then the header seal will not fit the s2 header rail that trim tech will supply....the rest should still work tho......
however the door seal and hood stowage seal were altered to suit the s2 hood too.......this doesnt change that much but lotus tell me that this did happen.......
the s2 header rail is longer across the front to allow an over hang to the side window.....
cheers

my understanding is the s1 hood was to tight and thats why early cars have the rub/tears.
the s2 hood is the only one available now and yes trims do have them. but that is hoods and rubbers only.
i have the only remaining full hood canopys...
hope you have managed to fix the converting convertable ?

I've just bought one from them, still sitting at my place now. Ask them to send you nylon webbing like I did.
I went with the upgrade version of the fabric with printed pattern underneath (cost $100 more).
Havn't fit them yet.
