I realise the amount of work involved here, so think to be fair, its up to Marie to name her price then we can all decide whether to or not to go ahead. Personally at $500 ( £250 approx ), i would have to give this a miss, as i just can't afford it, not that i'm saying it ain't worth it.

I’m probably the wrong person to be making suggestions on this subject but I did ask earlier about the warranty... so I have an excuse.

It’s a skilled job, if $100 is the average hourly rate for a mechanic I’d stick with it. £2000 a week in the UK

Another idea would be to have a highly polished heat shield, specially made.

Edit... My concern about the warranty has now been answered by Marie.

Ray.

HI All,
I'm stuck back in Chicago now. My flight got cancelled. Big shock

Anyways back on topic. Polishing out the housing has no effect on the warranty as it does not effect the internals of the Turbo itself. I checked wth my Garrett rep. on this to be sure. The shock was apparently from the fact that the GT2560R has a rough casting and would take a substantial amount of work to get a good finish. Trust me I know this first hand after polishing out both Ekapol's and my compressor housings..

Anyways back to "work". I have an FAA test to study for.

£2000 a wks a lot of money Ray, might be what your highly skilled people earn, but i assure you, us mere mortals are very lucky to earn a quarter of that :!:

The highly polished heatshield sounds a better bet

£2000 a weeks a lot of money... you’re telling me Paul :!:

It’s surprising what a difference one of those ‘shocked smilie’ things make. I managed to lose one after the word week, when I was editing it...now replaced.

Our highly skilled people worked for British Coal, they may have earned less than you.

On searching for a suggestion to make, I thought if an ordinary mechanic in California gets $100 an hour, there’s little point in trying to bring it down to our level, the gap is too wide.

Sorry for the confusion,

Ray

Don't the lotus dealers/specialists charge about £50/hour? Doubt their mechanics get that though!

As for Marie's time I think $250 would be a reasonable price to pay for polishing up the turbos - £12.50/hour.

Yea, specialists are around £50, dealers more like £70/80, but the mechanics would be lucky to get £12-15 / hr

I agree ailwyn, but still think as its Maries time we're talking about, she should put the price on it, as only she knows what its worth to her. We could be flattering her with our suggestions, but she could think we're insulting her , which i wouldn't want to happen :?

Paul,

I agree, what I was trying to say was you should count yourself lucky if you get away with £12.50/hour

Hey All,
I'm flattered!!! :-D We'll just say $200/ea and call it good. This covers supplies and the amount of soap I'll need to clean off the polishing compound from me face and boobs :P Sound good?

BTW if you haven't figured it out yet and as hard as it is to understand I love doing these little projects. Its like therapy with metal and a mig welder. Very relaxing to me. I'd even say better than sex to me. With this I can admire it for years to come, With sex.... 10 minutes and its over  then theres not much to look at.

Good news. They might have 3 more exhaust manifolds coming in stock. Don't know the exact date yet.

RichardK: I understand that you want to keep the fun part to yourself porting the exhaust manifold & adapter. I think about it again. It might be a little strange to port the manifold after jet-hotted it. The jet-hot coated on the inside will be grind off.

In that case, you might want to wait until later to jet-hot the manifold. Please let me know.

Yep, thinking about you are absolutely right, please could you and Marie do the necessary porting of the manifold........I cannot easily get it coated where I am....

....my adapter plate is already with me, I'm happy to grind that bit, if you do not need it with you.....

Thanks

Either option is fine by me.

We could use another adapter plate to figure out where to grind it or you could send us your adapter plate -- easier that way since you still have to drill that extra hole on the adapter plate...and it has to be quite precisely done.

You've got personal message in your inbox, Richard :-)

Quick update. We got all 5 turbos in.

On your left, a box full of oil/coolant hoses.
On your right, a stack of turbo heat shields.

Center, polished intake pipes, downpipes, BOVs, etc.

PS: The aluminum coolant tank, Brembo calipers/rotors, tail lights are mine :-D
