Can't be bothered to bite? I was being nice! Surely you wouldn't deny 'in yer face' or object to 'contemporary'?

I'm not sure if it's very 2008, or very 1970s (remember those very bright Porsche Carreras?). It wouldn't be for me, and I still think that it's much trendier and sportier than an Elan, but it works, and I'll bet you could sell a lot of them in that colour.

Those clear indicators look modern and go well with the colour, Kier. Your instinct that amber wouldn't go with the colour is absolutely right, I think.

It's gagging for modern white dials, I think - or even white letters on black. The Vauxhall red on black dials really are very dated.

A black interior (black not just grey) will look modern and classy.

I still think that it's gagging for some really modern wheels

and maybe a decal on the side (elan turbo, perhaps)

Points to the timelessness of the Elans shape. A new colour, tweak a couple of trim bits and people think it's something brand new! As for the rear lights, just smoke the entire cover and put in brigher bulbs to compensate (assuming MoT allow).

Actually, from my work on my rear lights when I made DIY clear lenses for the corners, I think you could remove all of the red (except the little rectangular reflectors) and make it all clear, then use colored bulbs. I'm using red bulbs in my clear corners. I thought about doing it to mine, but I didn't think all-clear lenses would look good on a calypso car. From the pics of the pistaccio, I think they would look the dog's.

Clear lenses are actually pretty easy to make using flourescent light cover material. It's tricky to cut (you have to score it, then carefully snap it), but otherwise very inexpensive and easy to work with.

Yep, I like it.

A very brave colour and looks like a proper job done!

Looking forward to seeing it for real.

Can't help thinking that if it were a pearlescent or metallic paint it would look even better...

Agree with the anthracite wheels, smoked lights would then finish it well.

Would anyone ever put their Elan in for a Pimping? (Pimp my ride show) Often wondered what they would do to one.

Oh hell no, They will ruin it!

I am a tuning/styling-fan, but what they mostly do to the cars is not my taste. The word "overdone" is on his place there.

Still loving the colour Kier, looks sweet.

My car need a re-spray due to peeling lacquer and I am really considering doing mine in a similar shade, although am also looking at other options. I think a light metallic blue might be quite modern and not really require a change to the V5. You definitely need to do the wheels though as the darker shade would look really good. Here are mine:

I don't think adding 5 to 10 LCD monitors to the Elan is really in line with Chapman's lightness philosophy! Also I don't really want Tim Westwood touching me if at all possible.

noooooooooooo... not Kia rears ... Kia rears look so ... Kia
Sorry Paul.P but in my opinion the Kia rears don't belong onto an Elan.

The OE rears looks so much better than the Kia ...

Half the problem is that people call them Kia rear lights. They might just as well be called Elise style rear lights.

And indeed circular rear lights are featured on most modern cutting edge sportsters.

Not great if you want a stock looking mid-90s Elan, but if you're updating the Elan, why not?

Perhaps even in carbon fibre?

Elsie:

I meant Elise type....

Which really can look modern - especially if multi-LED type lights are used

So what's your opinion, Gareth?

That round and/or multi-LED lights look old fashioned?

That big 70s style lights like ours are 'cutting edge'?

That the statement that round lights 'can look modern' is an extraordinarily contentious opinion?

I have my opinion about my car......
I dont wish to tell everyone about it....and dont want to tell everyone ad nasuseaum.......
I add the odd bit of banter and the tech info I learn or wish to find out about........
round lights, square lights, oval lights, pink ones with green spots......
dont really care.......people do what they like its their car.......so I dont need to tell anyone anything other than I like or dont like.......I dont need to preach to them about my view..........
cummon......some of these topics are getting so far off topic with opinion its unfair........

Paul, everyone has the right on his own taste ... and with all my respect for you AND your car... I still don't like the Kia rears...
For me the 3 (actually 6) round thingies are to bigg. ;) So, please don't take it personal ;-)

But hey, I just give my personal ideas/taste ... everyone is free to do with HIS car what he want. "It is your car, not mine!"

But it's always interesting to know what other people think, sometimes other people comes with nice and good ideas.

In an attempt to drag this one kicking and screaming back onto topic.....

I like it!

(personally, i think the kia lights ain't the best, but each to their own, i wouldn't call them crass - hence why i am patiently awaiting my rear panel from Phil to fit the elise lights).

I love the colour, the lights are irrelevant (white side/front flashers look good)

That said, Angie wouldn't say 'thank you' if you offered it to her.......but that's why they do red ones!

Bottom line, love it or hate it, it's your car to enjoy as YOU want.

Full Stop.
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?
