Sorry long silence, bloody Christmas puts my life into neutral.

I worked for a Renault dealer in the parts dept. and pilfered all the cross-reference books when i left. I don`t take the book`s word for it though. I buy and fit the parts before posting the numbers on the site. It`s like pattern stuff but OE quality & MUCH cheaper.

Thanks Oliver, I've been looking for suitable wiper blades for a year - everywhere I've been has drawn a blank when they look through their catalogues.

Do you know approximately how many parts cross reference to the Elan? I just wondered, if they could all be posted (perhaps on WikiLEC) then it would help people desperate for particular parts, and they could confirm back to all of us that the parts fitted OK.

Sorry chaps, don`t know about the window motors. Most of the bits i have crossed referenced are service parts only.

The Renault numbers i`ve confirmed so far are (they are fitted to my car). -

86 71 002 726 - out CV gaiter kit (universal but fits M100 exactly) £8 ish
86 71 010 039 - front brake disc (pair) Brembo £40 ish
86 71 010 061 - front brake pads (v.good) axle set £18 ish
86 71 000 036 - wiper blade (single) £3.50 ish
86 71 002 663 - air filter element £6.50 ish

all are +vat

The only catch is that on ringing / calling your local Renault dealer they may not have them on the shelf (apart form the wipers). But don`t worry, if ordered before 4pm they can get them next day for you. If no stock in UK, 2-3 days from France.

Got the wipers, which fit perfectly - thanks Oliver - at last I have a clear windscreen after using the windscreen washer/wiper!

Cost was £7 per wiper, and it is worth ringing to check they are in stock - the Renault dealer I went to didn't have any in stock, and the order took 3 days to come through.

I'll check this fitment. Hopefully I'll find something with enough curvature to fit the windscreen. Thanks for the suggestion!

I just went to Wal-mart and picked up a pair of wiper blades. 22" IIRC, and universal fitment type blades. They worked perfectly. Wiper blades ain't rocket science.

I have to get new ones again, refills at least, because I've buggered 'em up using them to hold down the front of my showercape. I tend to be lazy and just pull the showercape out from under them, which has messed them up. After I get new ones, I'll stop doing that.

Dear Tweetdriver:

It is my understanding that the Fed wipers are 23 inches. Try finding wiper blades in the States that are 23 inches. You can get 22 inch or 24 inch. And I am assuming that you are talking about the entire wiper assembly and not just a re-fill (the rubber insert).

If you are willing to go for a walk on the wild side, you can put a 24 inch Bosch ICON super wiper on the driver's side and a 22 inch on the passenger side. That is what I am running for day-to-day use. The ICON blade helps stay glued to the windshield in strong gusts of wind (here in Colorado).

I bought 2 of those new, one piece blades that starting showing up on Audis and other cars a few years ago. Don't know that name for them but they are the kind that don't have all the little hinges and joints in them but are a smooth piece of metal that is slight curved. I bought them in 24" and lopped 1" off the passnegers side with a dremel. If you put 24" wipers on the passenger side they will likely hit the body when moving to what's normally the "off" position and scratch the paint.

Ditto here. I have the ICON blades as well in 24/22. They work much better than even factory new wipers as the surface pressure is uniform across the width of the blade. It is a true generational difference in design and anyone who keeps the original "frame" wipers when replacement is due, can only justify it by claiming faithfullness to originality. The ICONs are not the only frameless wiper design/company offering this type of blade. There is also less chance of noisy blades as no one spot is pressing harder against the glass. You notice this as even though water is gone the blades still make no noise!

A 3rd positive review here. I second all of Nitroman's comments and agree with Algirdas' 24/22 fitment suggestion for Bosch Ikon wipers. They look a little clunky but they do the job exceedingly well. Here in the US, the Trico Neoform is similar to Bosch Ikon at a lower price. I have it on our Merc E320 - it is the only blade that has ever worked right in the single-blade, push-pull wiper arm. Trico Innovision blade offers the same technology but look slimmer since they don't have the aerofoil design.

Dear Nitroman and Tigerdog:

October 15th is approaching and it is time to change the wiper blades and put on the snow tires for my daily driver. I'm going with the Bosch ICON blades on the BMW after having them on the Elan. Plus, I don't notice the clunkiness anymore (well, at least I did not until Tigerdog brought it up. Thanks, dude.) We all get hit with tons of advertising blather about "the greatest wiper blade ever" and I have bought hook, line and sinker on some of it myself, but a manager of an Advance Auto Part store turned me on to these Bosch bad boys. I would not have bought them were it not for the fact that he and I go to church together and he let me use them for a month for free before buying them.

Looks like tomorrow may be a final drive for a while. I hope I can get it in before the snow from Salt Lake hits. Goodyear Eagle GS-D3s are downright dangerous in snow. Great in the wet. Horrible in the snow.
