Dipstick Routing and Wastegate Actuator Circlip

Right, my turbo is finally re-attached to the engine... everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong, it's been many long months and I didn't manage to do half the stuff I wanted to.

But...never mind, with grim determination all the major bits are now re-assembled and on the car.. just the odd little jobs to do now, and it's with some of those that I need the help.

1. Does anyone have a picture showing the routing/fixing of the dipstick holder, taken from above, looking down the back, RH (car) side of the turbo.

2. The circlip that holds the actuator arm to the wastegate went ping... anyone know if this is a halfords/B&Q part or, if not where I can get one? Spoke to Matty's and apparently the circlip is not a part listed by Lotus (sounds like a Lotus ploy to get me to buy a new actuator assy.

there were some pics of Sy's prior extra engine that showed the dipstick real well -- in fact if no one pipes up and you PM to remind me I have some shots I took of it at Donny and can forward them to you.

Yup, it ended up in my possession.... now the later one that Sy bought, that had all the f**ked up internals

And before anyone asks, the engine is not stored at my house and I can't get to look at it before the weekend, same for my project car, but I'm hoping to get the S2 ready for a test drive on Saturday... hence the request for pics.

Ailwyn - I'm sure there was a thread a few months ago called "show us your engine bay" - or words to that effect. It may have what you are looking for ?? In the meantime here's an old shot of mine but I guess it is too far forward and you want one from the rear - so to speak !

I'll try and post a more informative one later but it's pitch black at the moment and I can't find my torch.

I would imagine you can get a circlip from a local motor factor - in fact didn't someone buy a box of them recently ?? Geoff maybe ?? Or was that O-rings ??

That pic is spot on... just couldn't remember where the bracket should go, once that's in the rest of the routing is fine.

As for the circlip, I'm hoping it is an easily obtained part (should be). If anyone has any dimensions/foolproof description I'd be grateful.

Ailwyn, i`ve got a knackered turbo in the shed but can`t remeber if the actuator is still on it, i`ll dig it out tomo`s to see if the clips is there.

I got a box of 400 assorted external circlips from Halfrauds for about £7.

I'm sure one of them will do the job - do you know the size of the pin?

If no-one else can help, I'll stick a selection in an envelope for you, just PM me your address.

I got the circlip from a local motor shop, from memory it was the smallest i could get from them.

If you are struggling then shout, i`ll pop down there and get you one and drop it in the post.

My circlip is sat on the bench in the garage. Nothing special about it and obviously not 100% essential.

That thought did cross my mind, but thought that if I hit a pot-hole (not a difficult thing to do on uk roads) the actuator may pop out, it is under tension, but doesn't exactly take a lot of effort to dislodge it.

Dipstick is now correctly routed, went and bought a big box of "E-clips" smallest one in the box was just the job

Test fired the car, and although she took a while she finally started and sounded very sweet.

Looks like my battery has given up the ghost, but it was probably about time to get a new one anyway.

The only problem is I seem to have an exhaust leak from the front of the car, I'll need to get the car out of the garage and see if I can find out from where exactly... I'm hoping it's not from the manifold or turbo, from where the smoke was evident it looks like it could be the downpipe to PCE joint or the PCE to peco. Just have to wait for some sunshine now to wheel her out.. fat bl**dy chance with the UK weather

Making some significant progress now.

The car has been out for a run around the block...

A few niggles remain:

There's a not insignificant amount of smoke coming from the turbo/manifold area, now this is possibly residual WD40 burning off from where I applied liberally to separate all the parts initially, and the front of the turbo is looking a little damp from where I dribbled a small amount of oil. If the exhaust were leaking could I expect to see plumes of exhaust when I rev the engine? The amount of smoke stays fairly constant but does get disturbed when the engine is revved, I wonder if the vibration of the engine on higher revs could just be causing the smoke from the burning oil/wd40 to agitate.

I've fitted LGM's dump valve, currently in chav/sneeze configuration, and although I can't hear any leak under boost (and boy does it boost ) am getting the BOV opening every time I take my foot off the throttle even for no boost situations - should I turn up the pressure on the BOV to make the cracking point higher or do I defeat the object by doing so. For info, best as I can estimate I tightened the nut about 1.5 full turns on the BOV... anyone who's fitted their and happy with the adjustment got any feedback on how much it was tightened for them?
