For goodness sake!

Everyone admires the workmanship on Kier's Elan (even those who might not choose the colour themselves), and respect the imagination it took to select that scheme. A number of folk have suggested ideas for him to consider or reject.

Including different lights and wheels. I suspect that most suggestions are offered helpfully, and that Kier is glad that his 'creation' has inspired such interest and controversy.

That's hardly 'off-topic', surely? I'm sure that some enjoy the discussion, even if others (like Gareth) plainly don't. Does it do any harm?

PS: I saw a 911 in that exact colour today, Kier, and it looked very funky. I'm too old to drive a car that bold, but I'm kind of looking forward to seeing yours in the flesh.

Thats quite alright XiPHiAS, your entitled to your opinium, even if your wrong, in my opinium

Paul, everyone has the right on his own taste ... and with all my respect for you AND your car... I still don't like the Kia rears...
For me the 3 (actually 6) round thingies are to bigg. ;) So, please don't take it personal ;-)

But hey, I just give my personal ideas/taste ... everyone is free to do with HIS car what he want. "It is your car, not mine!"

But it's always interesting to know what other people think, sometimes other people comes with nice and good ideas.

WOW XiPHiAS !, the hint was in the  , i certainly didn't take any offence or intend to give any :!:
Before i commenced with the JPS, me & my friends had noted how pretty a car the elan was, but WE thought the rear end looked dated, & that the Kia lights bought it up to date, similar thing that lotus did with the esprit, that was our reasoning, but if you don't agree, then so be it :?
JPS M100 was built from bare chassis up to create one off M100 in the mould of JPS Team Lotus

Personally I don't much like the Kia rear lights (which are still all in one units with round lenses) but having seen Pauls car I simply cannot fault it in any way as a whole, even if a small individual element such as the lights are not the way I would choose to do my car (not that Paul cares as it is his car not mine). I do however very much like what Costas did to SH4RK with Elise lights, particularly if fitting the latest Elise type LEDs. I too await patiently the production of a rear panel (I have 50% of the lights I will need) but like all good things...... :D

All changes I have made to my car are 100% reversible (and I've kept all parts removed) and in my and only my opinion are in line with what Lotus might have done if the Elan had stayed in production, based on what was done with the Esprit and how the Elise has been developed.

I'm on record as saying I like what Kier has done, but I admit he is braver than me, I suspect Specky will get to my preferred colour before me, it won't stop me doing it but I won't then be the first  .

Don't EVER do that (fit brighter bulbs).
They WILL melt the plastic near the reflector.

true, but that's for incandescent bulbs --- LEDs will not give off heat to melt the plastic though

I love the seats.

I was thinking of getting the same combination only with Blue piping.

As for the colour of your car I think its not as loud as I thought it would be.

Cheers Monty.

Part of me wants to go to Hethel but to be honest it's a fair old way to go and it all seems a bit disjointed with people going on different days. I'd be on my own (appreciate there's people to chat to once there) I just feel a bit of a muppet going to these things on my own, plus there's all the costs of accomodation, fuel, etc. Just seems a lot of expense and I'm not sure what's going on (other than a BBQ).

Kier,
I think most of us will be going to Hethel on our own.
Sounds like you have not been out much with other LECers. Kimbers once told me that "owning a Lotus brings you in to a fantastic community & driving your car is just a small part". I can't emphasise how right he was.

If you've never been to an LEC meet, then you really are missing out. I feel really welcome and had never met anyone else on here 18 months ago. The LEF lot are a good bunch too.

Back to topic: I was initially a bit sceptical of your car's colour but, if the photos are anything to go by, I think it looks great.
From what I have seen, your choice of interior is becoming popular. I am not surprised though; it looks great too.

Kier,

Well it`s over 4 hours drive (over 200 miles) for me and i`ve manage to drag Dico along as a passanger, the BBQ is on the Saturday evening and the Main event is on the sunday so we`ve booked Fri & sat at travel lodge at cringleford. I know what you mean about going on your tod but once you get talking to them you`ll be find, besides they`ll be plenty of people to laugh at  If you don`t go maybe you`ll bring the peanut to Donny 2009

It's a 4 hour drive for us as well - but worth it!

The anoying thing for me is that i was up there 2 weeks ago to buy my car - now its going back again :-D .......

......but the driving is much of the fun - the rest is in the craic with other nutters.

Well, yes, it's a bit of a distance, especially from San Diego. :D And I've been a muppet for so long even my Avatar looks like an Animal. But hey, Lotus only turns 60 once, they just introduced a new car and I figure I'll know everyone on the forum much better  once the weekend is over. It'd be great to meet you - hope you can make it in the one-and-only Elano Pistaccio.

Lots of people are wanting to see the Nut and the Nutter! :-D You'll soon have company as you arrive, can't exactly miss you! And we'll all know who you are instantly. We had name badges at a few events to help people recognise and name other LECers. Helped a lot with remembering who we are andwere talking to.

Good thing about LEC is that it has easily brought together a wide range of likeminded individuals and created a 'family'. I can see the hesitation you face, and the cost implications, however I'm sure you'll never regret it (or never remember it if you end up drinking too much!)

Bring a tent and come up on the cheap like a few others if you like (me included).

C'mon, we all know nuts go well with beer! Seriously though, you are clearly welcomed by the whole LEC community.

Less than 2 weeks to decide....

Cheers for all your comments, I guess I've not really explained myself very well in my previous comment. With hindsight I should have just kept my thoughts to myself as now I kind of feel I have to explain what I meant.

I know everyone on here is cool and there would be plenty of people to talk to. I go to the Hen & Chicken meeting each month and I've been to Stoneleigh and Donny before so know that LEC is a great little community and everyone chats to each other.

My problem is more with me at the moment. I love my Elan, looking at other Elans and all things Elan generally. I’m just going through ‘one of those stages’ where I’m bored of doing things on my own. Went to monkey world on Sunday with the southern lot (of which I class myself as part of) and had a great day out. But everyone else has their wives with them and then there’s me on my lonesome once again!
I already know a few people that will be there, so it’s not that I think I won’t have people to chat to. It’s just the event as a whole which I’m not sure about this time.

I am still thinking of coming, just not really sure at the mo. Stefs suggestion of camping doesn’t sound too bad on the cost, so I could do that. :?

Kier,

Get yourself there Bud - there's loads of us blokes on our own.

My Mrs doesn't care much for cars (or me!) so I get to play cars, talk b#llocks, drink too much and talk more b#llocks.

There's the track laps, the coastal run, good food etc. If you need a ticket I've still got some to spare

Don't worry about that, my missus won't be around much later than 11, then the partying begins
