That makes me feel a little better mate...it's just that some people are reporting the discs as empty which is implying (to me anyway) that Windows Explorer can't read them...this is not good!

Have tried in a number of pc's now [/quote]

Me too Sy. I tried about 3 drives at work and now this one at home. Disc is coming up as blank although it is spinning as if searching. It's a mystery to me but then again I'm not exactly a computer boffin.

Sy, received mine many thanks. I can read it because I have Adaptec 'Direct CD'. You seem to have recorded it as a read/write CD so it works like a floppy disc in machines with read/write CD drives. The others can read theirs, all they need to do is get new computers!

Would that be because I put them in after the CD-RW disc that i use to transfer eLAnscan data from my laptop to my PC before sending it to Alan?

if its not burned as a directcd disk, those who can't read the cd and have a cd burner might want to load up nero or such and do a 'close disc'
Discs are supposed to be "closed" to allow them to be read on all CD drives - my software is set up to do this automatically. However, it appears that, because I was burning a CD-RW disc before hand, I may have inadvertantly cancelled this "auto close" setting.
That's my theory anyway.

It would appear that I still have some more burning to do. Unless anyone wants to take over the reins of course? - No, thought not.
Would everyone who cannot open their discs please pipe up so that I can get another version out to you.
And before anyone asks, if you missed the first run you're shitouto'luck!

:-[

OK Thanks mate.

If you (or anybody else) wants to return the discs to me for finalizing, drop me an e-mail and I'll send you my address.
My apologies again for the fLIckup...But, having "rescued" Russell's disc that he's just dropped round, I know it's possible.
Am I going to get all 42 back? Please no...

[smiley=disbelief.gif]

Sy,
from what I can make of the foregoing, this means that you think the problem is that you only "wrote a session" to the discs instead of "writing the discs" ie completing the discs.

If so this is compatible with what I mentioned to you in my email about the Donington discs when you asked for clues as to why some people could open them and some could not, and explains why a copy (from Andrew Ennis) of your disc runs OK on my Mac whereas the original does not.

Of course, you did read my email explanation before making the new batch, didn't you [smiley=1poke.gif]?

Anyway it means that you shouldn't get any of the 42 back. Now that we know what the problem is, people just need to find a mate who can either finish the (multi-session) disk or copy it as a finished single-session disc for them.

John ;D ;D ;D

PS thanks again for all the info - very handy; and very appreciated.

just tried the disc - no success does'nt recognise it as having any data.

Tried opening it on the cd/dvd RW using NTI s/ware i have on the pc - no joy in finalising it on that either doesnt look as though its compatible with adaptec to me but i am no boffin either? can't get it to open as a 'open file' cd either although windows xp gives me the option on loading the disc, again its blank? not sure what else to try?

Craig

PS just set up my old pc which has nero on it and could not finalise or close disc or session using that s/ware either - what was the Donington solution - do i need someone with adaptec or can i download it?

Sy, if i get the ISO off you, i'll help you out with distribution, since i can host it for them that wants too to download it off the old internet and burn people CDs, that is burn CDs for people not burn people or CDs made out of people..

that is if you like.

i'd been considering doing another scan run i think a few pages got messed up during the parts manual scan, and now i have a auto sheet feeder deally available to me, though i can imagine its more or less 'auto'

i'm still trying to figure out if the electrical manual has been scanned.

anyone get the actual OEM lotus manuals on CDs yet, or has no one twisted a dealers arm hard enough yet.
Sy,

You'll be pleased to know that it works for now providing it's on a read/write CD drive.

The only problem that I have now is that the bugger's stuck in and won't come out !! I just have to explain to my boss what I was doing reading Lotus notes and not doing any work today.

Thanks again,

Mark

Closed down the pc and booted back up in an effort to remove the CD from the read/write drive and guess what ??

A message came up on screen saying "would you like me to adapt this disc so that it reads on any CD drive" or words to that effect. Tried it on a normal read only drive and as if by magic I can now read it - and at home too on the laptop.

Miracles can happen !!
