Now this is interesting I have just purchased one from Malz (like a cheep Halfords in OZ) anyway you can get this same valve in what could be said is R/H or L/H and without taking a look at the car was told one is GM the other Ford so I took the GM (logic) with the option to swap.

Anyway it is the same as the picture on the previous post yet it is refered to as the GM one not Ford.

Mine cost AU$48.25 and had the Reference of HA 5217

This works out to about 19 pound so if the UK need any let me know

I have not fitted this piece; I've only confirmed it visually and through crossreference. If I had found it before the (inexact) replacement I used, I would have tried it. Now we have to wait for Lotos or Doc to be the Guinea Pig.

Id' be interested to see the thickness of the butterfly Al. The original is massive and it's no the wonder that we have trouble keeping warm in Winter in the UK. I had wondered whether to go for a Rockauto replacement e.g. ACDelco 15-5221 as it looks like they are poppet valves and might allow a bit more water through.

Geoff, this appears to be a re-branding of the same valve I bought at NAPA (similar to Halfords). The offset inlet/outlet makes fitting a bit more of an adventure but the biggest challenge is the vacuum fitting. On the ACDelco (and equivalent) valves, the vacuum fitting is about twice the diameter as the standard valve's. You need to create an adapter to fit the vacuum pipe to the heater valve nipple. Once installed, though, seems to open OK and like lots of water gets through. OTOH, I don't use my heater much, so I guess I'm not one to judge.

Dear All:

When I changed to Samco hoses, I went with the NAPA valve and it has worked just fine and I live where it does get cold. I get plenty of heat in the cabin and I have an engine that usually sits at one quarter on the temperature gauge.

Already ordered and should be here tomorrow. I also have a 1985 1/2 Pininfarina in storage and still look for parts on eBay, I can across this and had a good laugh. I just thought I would add this to the cross-reference section. Strange, I will have to go look at my Pininfarina because I can not even remember were the valve was located but I want to double check to see if it is the same
