If you order a dark colour, you might ask Samco to omit the stamp or stamp only one or two large hoses.

Has anyone done that?

In the past samco have been very reluctent to not have the logo on their products. We supply Ason Martin with their silicone hoses for the DB4/5/6 and V8, and Samco even moan about supplying Aston Martins hoses with no logos on.

Times are changing, and samco have realised that they need to change their ways, so it will be possible soon to have blank hoses supplied.

Perhaps a subtle middle ground could be found, where the logo is embossed in the hose in the same colour as the hose itself instead.

thats what we suggested, but then they will have all sorts of issues with customers ordering X colour and Y colour logo, its just easier for them to agree to make hoses without logos on.

we should be able to have this done in the next 4-6 weeks from what i understand.

What's the labor time like on doing the hose replacement? I was quoted "about $400" from a local fellow who work on Lotuses in his spare time for people in the area. Is this a tackle-able job for someone with absolutely no mechanical experience? How long did it take you folks to do it yourself?

If you have ramps or jackstands, I'd think the hardest thing is refilling the car with coolant. For me, I do not intend to "remove all", then "replace all". I'll swap them in sensible increments doing a few hoses at a time, unless I still have a 2nd Elan two feet away to referrence!

I took my time, arm-wrestling hoses over several days but all told, a few hours would have done it if it weren't for the "gotchas", documented in my write-up on the subject. As long as you have a sheltered place to work, a floor jack and some jackstands, a copy of the service manual for its helpful diagrams, and some patience, this is really a simple undertaking. All the bits to change are right out in the open, you don't have to disassemble anything much beyond the pieces you're changing. You'll get greater satisfaction doing it yourself. Just make sure to retighten the clamps several times after the new hoses have been in place and subjected to a nice hot engine.

Very good advice. Best to put on new Jubilee clips and do as Tigerdog suggests.

Better still, arm yourself with those more modern spring clip things that automatically self tighten and you will not have to worry again

Dear Lotos:

The bottom radiator hose that goes between the aluminum tube and radiator is a tough double 90 degree hose that was overlooked by me originally in working with James in putting together the Fed kit and which Samco is now having difficulty making. Plan on keeping your original hose for the time being. While you are doing all of the other hoses, you may want to pull that one off as well and throw some rubber and vinyl conditioner on it.

If Samco gives up the ghost on that little piece of hose, the options we are considering are (i) having a US-based silicone hose manufacturer take a run at it (Hose Techniques, Gates Rubber etc.); (ii) use a regular Samco single 90 degree silicone elbow and fabricate a different aluminum tube; or, (iii) keep the original rubber hose and aluminum tube.

You may want to take a gander at the thread dealing with Samco hoses for Fed cars.

right samco have given me the go-ahead with these hoses, but its not as simple as we first thought.

early next year they are going to be launching the new colour (Classic Black). its basically a matt balck hose with the logo stamped into the hose, rather that a sticker, so the logo will be on these, but its much more discreet.

this new colour is avaliable to us exclusivley until the new year.

Hi James! Please put me on the waiting list for this hose if/when it becomes available. If they cannot supply this hose, perhaps they can make a hose with a simple 90 elbow that extends to replace the metal pipe to which the elbow connects? That and a short coupler would serve the same purpose.
