I have my Elan SE engine in bits and intend to clean and renew whatever needs doing.
I intend decoking, generally cleaning up the bits and maybe having some parts chromed and have some parts sprayed and change hoses where possible and I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what else I should be looking to do whilst the car is in bits, i.e. wastegate porting, etc.
Kindest regards
Paul

If it's an S2 unbolt the pre-cat from the turbo outlet and remove the honeycomb piece from inside.
Then see if you can get an engineering company to ream out the bottom hole to 2 1/4" (assuming you'll be getting a larger exhaust at some point), as this will now be the most restrictive part of the whole system.
Better still, get one of these:
viewtopic.php?f=85&t=13527&p=176014&hilit=pre+cat+eliminator#p176014 (I think there is a photo of Piper's finished item somewhere towards the end of their exhaust thread)

Thanks for your reply.
The car already has a stainless steel exhaust from Paul Matty Sports Cars (i think), not sure what size it is though but I wont be changing that.
My car is a 1992 model SE but would it have been fitted with a catalyst as standard as I cant remember seeing one.
I already have a mountain chip to fit when all is working in standardish form.
Kindest regards

Sorry, I missed the SE reference in my previous post. I was going to delete my original reply being as there are lots of other discussions about PCE's out there at the moment, but seeing as it's led to a slightly different question, I'll just answer that first. Then the tangent will have been closed off and the original question can remain for others to answer.
The pre-cat will be hollow - SE's don't have cats or O2 sensors (unless specially modified).
If your exhaust is 2 1/4" or larger and mates directly to the bottom of the precat I would recommend enlarging the pre-cat's lower hole or replacing it with a PCE. But don't bother if it's only 2" or just uses the standard 2" downpipe as you won't be gaining anything.

Thanks very much for your reply.
I will measure the size of the exhaust and if necassary make some alterations to the Pre Cat opening at its base.
Kindest regards
