Another Elise light conversion.

Postby Adam » Tue 11.11.2008, 17:05

Hello. I am looking at having a go at creating a rear panel similar to a few others on here. Not sure how it will go so before i splash out on the light units, could someone please tell me what the dimensions of the elise units are so i can have a go at making a mould to see how it will look? Im after diameter (or what size hole to cast) and depth of unit from front face to rear mating surface. Any help (or tips) would be much appreciated.
Cheers, Adam.

I thought people were saying the Elise lights are really prone to fail?

SurferPhil on here has done these and Ithink he's going to be selling one of his panels.

Worth dropping him a PM

Thanks Will/Randy,

I have seen that there are a few floating about/in prototype stage and considered putting my name down for them but for some strange reason thought it would be more fun to have a go myself!

Cheers for the info though.

Adam.

Something like these? Project is getting there but not quite finished to my satisfaction. as soon as this set is done I'll be pulling a moulde from it. This valance will most likely be going to Ekapol.

Also I haven't had a single issue with the bulb type elise lights. The LED versions do have some minor issues that can pop up like solder joints bad ballasts ect.

Several small mouldes of varying composition with all of the positives eventually joined together. in short one really big alnd long painful process. I'm sure there would have been better and easier ways but when I started this project 4 years ago they were only updates to the housings I already have on the car. It kinda morphed into the current rendition.

I haven't really been devoting much if any time to this recently as I'm still finishing up on the turbo upgrades and have been flying alot more lately. One other kick...... This valence will only fit on the Fed. Elans.

I did see two rear panels unpainted without lights on e/bay sell for £245  that seems a bit steep for me , I have a friend who is a body kit manufacturer so I will look into having a rear panel made up eventually

Agree, as always with marie's projects.

Double agree. I saw this pic and thought it'd be a good start for a design. I especially liked the touch at the side where they've addressed the little "curved" body section that meets with the tail light cluster with a vertical piece (would look awesome in carbon fiber).

Yes that that was me on Ebay. Just testing the market......

Trig they seem expensive I will admit, but when you know how much time and effort goes into designing and making the mould and then hand finishing each one....they really don't make me alot. I could get a second job and earn more money. It took months to make the mould and as Marie says they are complicated.

Chris

Chris, I absolutely understand how much effort goes into making parts from scratch and I commend your efforts they look great 8) I also like what Marie has done with the rear panel and ideally that's the type of thing I would like 8) 8)

My rear lights arrived today and I think they look great for a very good price of £49,, probably a fraction of the price of the Elise rear lights!

Are they the same size as the Elise lights??? In the pictures, they "look" (for all that's worth) to be larger than the Elise lights. Or were you not using ChrisP's panel?

Yes they are larger and will not fit ChrisP panel , I'm hoping to have something similar to Marie panel made,,,although ChrisP panel does look great and if things don't work out its another option :)
