Charcoal Canister

Hi there,

Does somebody know where I can get a replacement Charcoal Canister. Mine smells and seems not to work properly. I checked Sj Sportscars but could find only one for the Esprit.
I am located in Germany.

Sounds more like a filter for aircon, maybe?

should be a canister in the fuel piping behind the body panel of the tank filler area

now how do you know it smells? do you perhaps just have a crack in the fuel tank at the top which is causing a fuel smell



anyone have a link to the fuel tank problem handy for him?

Thanks for your replies. The Charcoal Canister is responsible that fuel fumes do not leave the fuel system. It is situated within the fuel return system.
Its location is behind the drivers seat (German car). I have a replacement tank installed two years ago; no crack here. The smell is coming from the filter. There is a return valve coming with the canister which might not work properly any more.
Therefore again my question where I could get a replacement canister.

In dapinky's LHD parts manual, there is this picture - Item 001 is A100L0036F Fuel Evap Canister. Is this it?

Hallo Stefan

in which situations do you have noticed the smell? Cause when i get my elan (kia) new, I have had similar thoughts... I thought a second option could be leaky fuellines so intense was the smell... I have checked the complete car. Everything fine So it was only some kind of termal effect by opened driver windows. A possibility?

Hi Geoff,

That is correct. Now, after your reply I checked for "canister" in general but no other items showed up at SJSportscars than the ones I have seen before.
My car is currently at my mechanic and he confirmed that fuel smell is coming out of the canister.
Don, in my situation the car smells after I have parked it and it has been standing for a few days. I am quite sure that no fumes are coming inside from the outside (unfortunately).

On the 'new additions' to the sale list for the parts sale at the end of the month are now listed these bits:-

As you can see, they have 48 of them in stock, reduced from the list price of £28.02 down to the sale price of £4.26

I think it is personal sale on the day, so you may need to contact someone who is going to Hethel and ask them to do the deal on your behalf. I'm not going, so can't help you out on the day
