Keeping WARM!

Postby Stef » Thu 27.11.2008, 17:25

My heating, which was quite feeble but OK, is now virtually non-existant.

Any idea why and how to solve this?

Cheers!

could be the valve as they do tend to disintegrate. could it be an air lock? Heater control regulator has become disconnected? The times I've lost heat from the heater was when i had hgf so I hope its something else.
Could the 'Hokey-Cokey' actually be what it's all about?

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

Stupid question; but I ask it anyway - is the thermostat OK? Are you showing about 1/4 on the temp gauge?

Just a thought

MD

Your complaint is absolutely typical of the small-bore rubber vacuum pipe having come off the rear of the plenum.
It should have a right angle plastic attachment (which is totally useless) on it. It sits about a 3rd of the way along the rear of the plenum from the RHS as you look at the engine bay. have a look behind the plenum for the end of a small black hose.

Think I had that issue of fan direction very early on which got fixed in the pub car park at a West Mids meet!

Onto my temp guague, it only ever really reads just below quarter, not really had the opportunity to let her sit and overheat for a while, but sure it was ok few months back.

With my recent power issue, I did think it maybe another Head Gasket issue (had Blipi's done around 4-5 yrs ago) however it turns out I need a new coil pack.

Will check the heater valve tomorrow.

Cheers!

If it this you should have noticed unusual idle speeds as well.

My temp gauge also sits between 1/8 and 1/4 and I believe it to be the butterfly in the valve as I've been thro' the air bubble problem and I saw the picture on the other thread.

Back on topic......! Another check you can do is set your ventilation to recirc - you should get a good blast (with the fan turned right up) of hot or cold air depending on what you've set. If you then switch from recirc to outside air and all the air flow disappears you have identified another problem. The air should be sucked/forced from the slit above the passenger side front indicator and through a duct moulded into the passenger wing and thence into the cabin (this reads correctly for LHD/RHD). You need to peel back the passenger wheel arch liner to see where the air should go next. On my car the foam 'joint' between the wing duct and the entry into the cabin fan motor had deteriorated leaking most air into the wheel arch. I looked hard for this joining part but it doesn't appear to exist as a spare so made my own. Hey presto - loads of air into the cabin - hot or cold! Hope this helped someone else!
