Removing super-glue

Postby ektrolleyboy » Wed 03.12.2008, 21:57

I've managed to unknowingly spill a 6 inch run of super-glue down my drivers side door card. And not discover it until it's properly hardened.
B*#@ecks!
Does anyone know if this can be removed?

Most larger hardware stores that sell superglue also sell superglue remover - try Homebase or B&Q

Ektrolleyboy,

The guys aren't winding you up....superglue remover/solvent does actually exist...and can be found in some DIY/Hardware shops and also in most (radio controlled) model shops.

An alternative is to use Acetone, which is often found in nail polish remover..... a small amount on the end of a Q-tip or cotton swab applied directly to the glue should dissolve the glue, enabling it to be carefully wiped away. (If you go for nail polish remover, check the label to make sure that the remover actually contains acetone, as more and more manufacturers are producing 'acetone-free' remover.) Please appreciate that you may not be able to completely remove the glue :(

Also, be careful, as straight acetone can discolour a number of fabrics/materials and can mar some finishes (although perhaps not more than your existing spill !)

Good luck mate !

Martin.
