Crack in fuel tank :-(

Hi All,

Since I bought my SE a early september, I noticed that I couldn't fill my fuel tank completely, as fuel was bleeding out. I thought that may be a hose was not properly installed or something, but I just discovered the hard truth: there is a vertical crack in my tank...

These pictures are taken from just above the left wheel.

2 questions: first, is this normal that the bolt is not fully screwed? Then, does anyone know if it is possible to repair that kind of crack?

I'm not going to do the search for you, but you'll find other threads about this. You have a crack in the tank at the filler neck. In the US, at least, there was a recall, and all of them were fixed. Some people have repaired there's with plastic weld-type materials, and others have gotten the whole tank replaced. It's a normal problem with these cars. There are some who just don't fill their tank all the way, so they don't get any leakage.

I saw the posts, but judging from the picture, it does not seem to be at the filler neck... Anyway, do you have any idea of the material I should get to "fill the hole"?

Has the crack been caused by the strapping - is the tank misaligned?
If so, the cause will need to be corrected before repairing.

The strapping on my tank has 12mm gap

Thats a crack in the tank it`s self and not at the filler neck and i`ve not heard of a tank going in that position one of the members is braking a red M100, so would be worth asking him for the tank.

I`ve had to reposition that strap as i`ve fitted roll hoops but i`m sure the strap was up against the body as long as the strap is tight then it should be fine.

Well, I think I may have 2 cracks, as I saw some other fuel/dust marks. I guess one is at the neck, the other one probably caused by the strap. I'll probably take the tank down (still have to find the means...) and try to repair using the Q-Bond 2 parts glue I've read about from Markv.

By any chance, does anyone remember who is braking the "red beauty"?

Your better off replacing the tank if you can.

Just to confirm, I've had no problems whatsoever with leaks since that repair
