Next months EVO mag there also doing a feature on 60 years of lotus, 14 pages (octane mag done this a while ago) the editor says this will be better than octanes when I spoke to him at hethel for the photo shoot, my other car an excel slik red appears in it

Just seen the EVO mag....... no need to rush out and buy it if you're just interested in the M100 ....... as unfortunately, it looks like the (new) Elan didn't make it into the '60 years of Lotus' article

Perhaps worth a look though, if you have a general interest in the marque, or in some of the other models.

Article celebrating 20years of the MX5. The penultimate paragraph reads:
"The car was brilliant and brilliantly timed. It came across as intimate, accessible and involving just as Lotus’s second stab at producing an Elan – which looked like a plastic jacuzzi with a tonneau and had front-wheel drive – was disenchanting swathes of the motoring press with its show-off grip and neutral, aloof, yawn-a-mile handling. If the second Elan was a false dawn for Lotus, the Mazda precipitated a worldwide roadster revival."

Well, seems to me the MX5 was a car that was welcomed in this country with great popularity. That comes from there being a total lack of 2-seat convertibles, and it was cheap. I don't want to knock the MX5 for what it did, but it's a mass-produced, robot-built, hair-dresser's car, with no pedigree.

Oh, and in the 16K miles I've driven my Elan, I've yet to yawn even once. I wonder if the Mazda executive who wrote that article ever actually drove an Elan?

I've related this story before, but in 1991 over 2 or 3 weekends I drove about 10 different new sports & sporty cars and the Elan was by far the most lively drive I had. It was not the fastest car, but it handled great and through its light weight yet controllability, it gave the sensation of speed & power and of being the most "honed". Simply put, it was the most fun to drive, and I never forgot that.

It is written for retards by retards. None of them have any integrity. I want to like the mag but they just print un researched crap after crap and like most of the motoring press; it's not about the cars ability or engineering or design they hail, it's how much torque, bhp or 0-60 times.

The usual 'If a car doesn't slide the back out then its crap' Yawn a mile attitude. Who cares about what these people say, I bet most people who buy the mag buy it for the pictures. It's just a porno mag.
