Lowering seats

Postby Coupeboy » Mon 02.02.2009, 13:54

Has anybody that has done this bothered purchasing new bolts and if so what did you buy i.e. what is the thread size etc? The inner bolts must be shortened as they engage with a captive nut inside the body. The outers could be reused but they will have an inch of thread protruding below the nut. Thanks

A word of warning here. Please do not use the parts guide to size the length of the bolts, as i found out to my cost !!

The bolt lengths given in the parts guide are for the S2 NOT the SE. The SE bolts are approximately 17mm longer than stated in the guide. The spacer lengths are, however, detailed correctly. :?

The bolts on my SE were M10 (at least the guide was right about that!) - 1.5mm pitch (why does the guide never tell you the pitch?) - Length 65mm outboard, 60mm inboard. I'm not even sure if, on mine, these were the original bolts but they seemed OK. I think my advice would be to remove your bolts and spacers and measure them to be absolutely certain.

OK so my plan would be to purchase M10 bolts shorter than the 60/65mm originals by the height of the spacers (~25mm). This way I can keep the original bolts and spacers in case a subsequent owner wishes to replace them. 8)

Sounds like a good cunning plan. :-) I've checked the rest of my documents and am now almost certain the bolt lengths above are the original lengths.
