something to support an engine...

Ive got one or two engines i need to find storage for and work on, id like to make some sort of trolley with wheels to mount them onto, does anyone have any suggestions and any of the dimensions i'll need to get something made up? cheers

IIRC Dico and Paul.P bought an engine stand but not to sure were they purchased them, i`m sure one of them will be along with an answer.

these look perfect, your right the big question is how much does our engine weight.... id guess around 450kg should be enough if the whole car weighs just over 1000kg.

I doubt the engine even with the gearbox weighs that much, I would expect that the engine plus box probably weighs less than 300kg. I know that the on the Isuzu Piaza 2.0 engine minus ancillaries and box I was almost able to lift and I am not that strong!! I would always go for the stronger cradle if you can afford it - you never know a mate might want to borrow or you get another 'project' + I like overengineering.

I am sure soemone has a more definitive weight though.

Don't forget, the gearbox weight doesn't matter - the engine has to be seperated from the box to attach it to the stand.

(I have the 'smaller' clarke one from Machine Mart and it is more than enough for the job (but i haven't weighed the engine). I have used the same stand for lots of different engines, including a Stag V6, Rover V8 and various odd Ford/vauxhall units.)
