Free Tyres - 205 45 16

Not sure if I should post here or Parts for sale - maybe the mods can help out? Thing is they're free if you want them so not for sale as such.

I've got:
4x Goodyear F1 GSD3 205 45 16 with about 3mm tread (actually more than twice the legal minimum looking at the wear bar)
1x Kumho Ecsta KH 11 205 45 16 with about 5mm tread
1x Dunlop SP Sport 2000 205 45 16 with about 5mm tread

All in good even wear condition. Available cos I just had the wheels refurbed and put new boots on.
If anyone feels bad about just having them....then you should make a donation to LEC.
They are currently in Somerset (with me!). If its any help to anyone not in the SW, I reasonably frequently go to Milton Keynes and occassionally London. Failing that, I could take them up to Donington in April.......but if they're not wanted by then then they go to the dump.

Just bought some wheels on ebay, so would be intersted in. Problem is that I m at the other side of the channel.
Maybe I ll plan a trip there soon ?

You are most welcome to them if you want them Cesar....but obviously its not worth a spending much on transportation for them. Will you be driving over for the Donington festival in April?

I Guess that Donington will happen on a week end ? (do you know which week end ?). I d like to be there but I am working a lot during the week and twice as much during week ends...
But I am thinking for a while to a visit in Uk ... Will let you know not too late.

I'm lucky enough to have 6 wheels (bought 2 off Dico a couple of years ago). So I've been going through them two at a time - refurb wheels and renew the tyres - while keeping the car on the road. Started with the worst two, bad curb damage on the "spokes" which are obviously quite dished out on the S2 and on the rim (enough to need a bit of metal to be added). Even the best two had a couple of gouges. They were all done through Sinclaires (Romford) but I dont know who they actually use. They were £150 per pair, which I think was expensive. However, they did do an excellent job, the wheels look like new (or better) - so at least you get what you pay for - and Wayne says that they've never had any problems come back to them.

I've since moved West, and am having the wheels on my Carlton done by Lepsons at Swindon. Scott is doing a "special price" for LEF members (so perhaps open to LEC too??). Basically around £50 a wheel slightly more if the tyres are on, slightly less if no tyres to deal with. The facility he has is very impressive (showed me round on Saturday) - but I've not yet had the wheels back to see the quality.

Some places do a better price if you do all four wheels at once, and most are cheaper if they dont have to strip or replace tyres....but of course that will then cost you elsewhere unless you have your own tyre fitting kit.

Hi Shaun....I'll probably take the Carlton to Donington so no pair of NMYs! There's more room for the tyres, and there's always a chance I'll find a buyer for the car! Anyway, Cesare gets first dibs if he can make it, you're in second....and most welcome.

Sorry Martin - didn't see your post. We left on Friday lunchtime and I've not had access to a computer since then. I put a couple aside for Shaun, but left the other four by the car with a "help yourself" notice. They all went on Saturday.

Good show.....and good to say hello to a few faces. Well worth the trip as usual....but it seems noone wants to buy my Carlton! Oh well, I'll just have to keep it

Yeh Gazza - it belongs to Bob Harris who's one of the leading lights in the Autobahnstormers (the club for LCs plus other big engine GM cars). He's dead proud of it, spent ages telling and showing me....and he and his son in law Dave have done a great job. But I'm really not sure about putting the 377bhp and 419 ft lbs through an ordinary Senator auto box. It is unique though - and it made good use of another member's written off Lotus Omega - so good luck to him!

Probably my favourite car ever.
And if yours was one of the 3 on display then they were all absolutely gorgeous.

Those three cars are indeed all excellent Neil. Mine was outside, with a big for sale sticker on it. Got loads of interest but noone looking to buy. Its a great car - had it 10 years now - but I dont really use it anymore and like all cars it behaves better with regular use - so best someone else enjoys it.

I wouldn't think those kind of numbers would cause too much trouble to a Senator Autobox (at least for the first 150K miles).

It's a tough old box which GM used in some of the Yankee muscle cars.

The problem came when the Old bill insisted on manual boxes (don't know why, they wern't as fast as the autos) - GM didn't offer the Senator in a manual form, so they found a box which would fit (from some Bedford truck or other) and threw it in. The ratios were all wrong and the clutch can wear out in very short order. At one point we were getting under 10K miles from a clutch, and 25K to a 'box.

(It was still my all-time favorite company car, though!)
