I hit overboost in 3rd on the way home too. I was more than ready for it though.
Dave had a smile on his face after taking mine round the block too.
Anyway, back to yours..
I took 2 logs, one at idle, then a second when you were driving. Judging from the levels of boost, you have an Everest chip fitted. The wastegate looks to me like it is working normally, but I am not very experienced with viewing Elanscan files, so maybe Geoff or Doug may spot something.
Rule 1 when using Elanscan is to check the base timing first...which we did not do. You have some knock there, so that may suggest that the timing needs retarding a little, but mine had loads more knock than that before I retarded the timing & that hardly any effect on performance.

Overall that's a tidy looking Elan you have there, Steve.

No worries. I am a bit disappointed that we spent time chatting instead of checking your timing. I had the necessary tools woth me too. You may want to play about with your timing. Mark it with tipp-ex first so you know where you are going with it.
With an Everest chip, you should get a huge kick when your turbo spools up. The boost should build up differently to mine, yours should be quicker.

I've just had a quick scan and ........

Your thermostat may be sticking as the temperature is erratic - starts at 98-99°C and drops to 76°C before coming back up to normal running temperature.
The knocking occurs when the boost is coming on.
The onset of boost is before 3000RPM and is not as aggressive as I've seen with ESM's offerings, in fact it's very like mine before I pulled out the MBC and Super(s**t)Chip
The peak boost is not very stable but there is no shortage of it.

Without doubt, you should check the base timing, I would change the thermostat and it would be worth making sure that the wastegate is free (search the Wiki for "wiggle"). I would check for an MBC tucked away somewhere (see the Wiki) and if you find one, you may have a Fuel Cutoff Defender (which may be the cause of your knocking) or an agricultural (but expensive) chip 'upgrade'.

One Question; Should you be able to move to acuator rod freely by hand so it goes in and out of the wastegate capule once the 3 bolts have been released that connect it to the Turbo housing

Not really... (It possible but only certain circumstances)

When you've undone the bolts.....

The waste gate and rod have no resistance to speak off, so if you're getting movement at the diaphram end you have a seized waste gate...(or a buggered diaphram, which is very rare) I'm guessing you're using the metal mounting bracket to actuate the rod, but you're getting movement in the diaphram... This is not what you want...It should move the other end...(A seized wastegate)

Loads of WD40 and about an hours work of manipulation... (Back and forth)

You should have nearly an 1"1/2 of movement

The bit to reiterate is no resistance, no sticking...

Cheers Specky . It was seized and with a bit of mulipulation it did move but its still a bit squeaky and stiff. I might sneak out and have another go when she who must be obeyed is watching dancing on ice
