Fitting S2 alloys to an SE

Hi all

There are bits and bobs on this subject when I searched....but can anyone here give me a definitive answer to the following...

When fitting S2 alloys to an SE...

1. Can you use the original wheel bolts?

2. If yes to the above, will the SE 19mm wheel wrench still fit the bolts holes on the S2 alloys?

3. Did the S2 wheels come with metal tyre valves, and are they a standard fit or Lotus only?

4. Apart from the obvious (new tyres, centre caps,) anything else I may need to know?

1. yes
2. yes...just be careful as its a tight squeeze...ish....chipped paint is not a pretty sight
3. metal valves....south west lotus have these at £5 each approx...however he says he cant see why.....std rubber ones are fine apparently
4. dont forget the S2 centre caps when ordering ...otherwise the SE ones will fall out the S2 push on from the outer face BTW so you can fit them later without taking the wheel off if you forget that is

dont forget to change the whole suspension set up too........
youre supposed to do this according to the tech manual...however Im not sure if I know anyone who has when theyve gone to 16" rims

Re the valves, my tame tyre fitter insisted on me providing metal valves.

I discovered they are narrow valves - difficult/expensive to get hold of

I thought the S2 bolts were different and with a smaller head.

My old SE had S2's and you dont need to worry about the suspension, well i didnt

same bolt smaller head 17mm across instead of 19mm

my car is having its wheels redone and the guy doing it has asked me to get these valves too....hence my call to SW lotus

When i had new tyres at Elite in Rainham, i am sure they got new BBS valves. Maybe wrong.

I thought the collars were different and the thread was longer.

Looking at Ray's picture they look the same but the thread does seem longer up the bolt.

I have metal ones on mine Dave ... from memory they seem to have more thread and less plain...if it’s useful I'll take a picture tomorrow.

Regarding wheel studs... they’re discussed here in regard to the spare wheel.

There’s a lot to be said for only ever fitting the spare on the rear.

You should try having AP's fitted to the fronts.

Back wheels are 3 standard S2 nuts and 1 locking wheel nut
Fronts are 3 longer nuts than standard (AP supplied) and 1 longer locking wheel nut than the rears.

So 2 different locking sets front and rear

When i 1st got the S2 wheels and had the refurbed the guy had to fit new bolt in valves and cost me £40

Camskill do different type off valves, but you need to know the valve hole size

OK, the salivating can end,

Sausage and sage casserole with beans and butternut squash

Serves 4...(or 3 fat bastards)

2 tbsp olive oil
10 good quality pork sausages
50g butter
1 small butternut squash, peeled, seeded, and cut into 2cm cubes
1 onion, thinly sliced
2 garlic cloves, crushed
4 tbsp chopped fresh sage (can use 2tbsp dried sage)
3 tbsp Dijon mustard
600ml chicken stock
400g can butter beans, drained and rinsed

bread rolls

1.Preheat the oven to 200c (fan 180c).
2.Heat the oil in a flameproof casserole dish on the hob and fry the sausages for 5-10 minutes, turning frequently until they are browned all over. Then remove the sausages and set aside.
3.Add the butter to the casserole dish with the squash and onion and cook for about 10 minutes until the squash softens and the onion caramelises. Add the garlic and cook for a further 2 minutes, then stir in the sage and mustard.
4.Tip in the stock and butter beans, stir and bring to the boil.
5.Tuck the sausages in the casserole and cook, uncovered, in the oven for 20 minutes.
6.Sprinkle with the parsley and serve with warm rolls.

Very simple and very, very tasty.
