Heater (no blowing out hot air)

Hello boys and girls, wondered if anyone could help, my heater doesn't blow out hot air, only when I am giving it a bit of welly or on the motorway that ids does give some heat??? Any ideas what could have broken?

Whats your temp guage showing on a normal run? sounds like the thermostat could be stuck open

Make sure the vacuum hose is still attached to the Heater valve.

Since you are getting heat when you are really working the engine, it tends to be a thermostat that is either stuck open or completely missing.
Do you have one of the quicker Elans --RED.

One more vote for the thermostat. Easiest to check and the most likely problem. A less likely scenario is a rusted coolant making the heater unable to work which I had a couple of years ago. Actually the water pump was also shot so it could have caused the problem as well.

i spent over a year with a similar problem, it turned out to be a vacumn hose that had come off, took 10 mins to find and sort out.

I will vote against the t-stat. Reason is I had one that would stick open and the dash temp gauge would read low, but my heater function was still acceptable.

My candidates = vacuum hose to heater valve; heater valve itself; bad linkage to air mixture flap; bad blower motor

blower motor is easiest to check

temp mix flap on dash can be checked with little hands reaching behind dash if needed (if others check out first) (Flap not moving to the end/closed fully can allow cold air to leak in and cool the heated air)
