The recession has kicked seven shades of sh!t out of all car prices.

Especially second hand.

And most particularly for open-topped, ageing, former luxury sports cars.

I’d say that about 20-25% has been lopped off most Elan achieved prices since May 2008.

Your car is low mileage, and you have made some very sensible and desirable mods.

These don’t add half as much to the value of the car as you will have spent, but they do make yours a more desirable, more ‘sorted’ car, lifting it above many other cars of the same mileage.

My advice would be to fix the window (it’s an obvious weapon for someone to try to use to beat you down, price wise).

Having watched Gary and Surferphil’s cars go, I’d guess that you might get £4,500-£5,000.

But you might not get as much. A lot of it is luck and finding the right buyer at the right time in this market.

Thanks for your comments on values, I'm going to keep the Steel Blue S1, repaint it the same stealth colour and put a new hood on this year. I enjoy driving it and this afternoon seriously pi**ed off a BMW driver who ran out of puff following me... :O) What else would you want with the sun starting to shine?

I'll think hard, and answer more fully, but my answer will be partly informed by the fact that I just bought a pretty mint, one-owner SE with 37,000 miles, air con and a full Lotus service history for less than £6k.

Yes, It's just that I don't drive to work in it any more as I have to catch a train, and have only done 100 miles in the last 6 months.
