Andy, try removing the corrugated hose that runs from the air filter / trash can to the turbo inlet and blowing into it. Remove it at the air filter end, stick it over your mouth, blow and it should hold the pressure for a long time - as an added bonus, it will give you a nice goaty beard just like Sy! If it holds pressure, then it's likely your turbo isn't providing much boost - if it doesn't hold pressure then you have a leak somewhere.

You might of been better keeping the goatee beard bit to your self. I wouldn't of wiped it first. Making an air tight seal with my mouth it holds pressure but with force i could blow down it. I can hear air coming out somewhere. Should i be able to do this? Andy

Mine maintained pressure for a considerable time so it looks like a leak might be the source of your problems.

I really have to blow to get the air to i thought passing through the turbo. How hard is it usually to blow through. Our shouldn't i be able to? It is holding the pressure but if i blow hard it seeps through. That's the only way i can explain it. Its quite hard to blow and make a seal. I don't know how i'm going to blow and feel for leeks. Can't Max help you with that bit, using the pipe as a stethoscope method that I mentioned earlier?

Sorry Enright id forgotten about that. I will go and have a look. I Think it would be better if Max could blow. But i found it difficult getting a seal. Andy

So its a matter of running the car and listening fo the hissing getting louder through the pipe. Or for any hissing. Does that meen i shouldnt of been able to blow up the turbo hose to keep up the presure? Andy

Yes.....sort of, the graphic artist who drew the diagram must have been on tea withdrawl, basically the wavy lines are rubber hoses and the straight pipes are metal.

max and andy wrote: Esprit 888. The top hose in the diagram is that the hard hose that goes through the wing and then up to the throttle body?

Don't suppose you have access to an air compressor ? blow jobs aside it just sounds too much of a coincidence that you had great everest rated boost then nothing, sounds like a hose is off somewhere as is warned in the install guide on the site when you jump from 0.5 (ish) to 0.9.

Ive found the source of the air leek. The big hose to the turbo from the trash can. Turbo end was loose. A full mornings puff. I tried the car no change. Time for the Scan me thinks. Andy

Yep, I had the same issue when my boost went away. But it still didn't fix the problem? Have you checked out the little vacuum line running from the red boost transducer to the intake?

Good point ! although Andy says it 'feels' like no boost so i doubt its off. Andy he means the one arrowed below.

It won't fix lack of boost as it's on the intake to the turbo, HOWEVER it will stop any crap being sucked into the turbo which is probably far more important.

I have just tried Alexbs Elan scan but he is still having problems with it on my car too. He did notice that the sensor that i changed the hose to. The hose went from just under the actuation capsule right around the right side of the engine under the trash can and onto a sensor that has a clear plastic top the size of a bottle top. It has a red and a black wire inside that are visible. I did have the MBC plugged into the end instead of the sensor but its back on the sensor now. Alex said it might be the sensor. Alex didn't have one on his car. Or his looked very different. I'm calling it a sensor but I'm not sure. Alex thought that if i took the hose off the sensor and replaced the MBC and took the car for a short run i could check if the sensor is still working. Sounds like another to scratch off the list. So I'm going to give it a go. I fitted the MBC and tried it,its the same result as before boost gauge up to the first notch but i cant say i could feel it. I don't know if this scratches the sensor or not. The vacuum line running from the boost transducer is OK but it does look a bit flackey. Can i use the same hose as on the actuation capsule? The pipe on it now looks more like washer pipe for the windscreen but rubber. And no clips holding it. Does it just pull off the side of the engine? It looks like its going to fall apart when i do. Its holding at the moment anyway. Andy

Andy,
Forget the 'sensor' (which is the electronic boost control =EBC) you have eliminated this because you have no boost with the manual boost control (AKA Wastegate or MBC) plugged off. With the correct capsule hose plugged you would have stopped any boost pressure from going to the MBC and opening the wastegate therefore what should have happened is you get a ton of boost until you hit the EBC which sends an electrical signal to shut off the fuel and you end up with a sutol label embeded in your forehead  )
If you are still confused remove and plug both hoses (see below) but be careful, as explained before due to potential overboost and engine damage under sustained high boost. My money is still on a hose off (a large one not one of the smaller ones) PS: The hose on the transducer is technically a pressure hose (not a vac. hose) as it measures boost and sends that signal to your dash boost guage.

I have already tried it with just the top one blocked. You want me to try them both blocked at the same time? The bottom hose is the one i replaced and had the MBC on. I would think twice about changing it again. What a bitch to put back on. I cried real tears on that one. Andy

Andy when you say MBC are you saying manual boost control ? does not matter which of these two goes where, as long as one goes to the capsule and one goes to the electronic sensor looking thingy with the glass looking top. :)

MBC Bleed valve. Top goes to capsule bottom to sensor round the corner. Should i block both at the same time? Andy

Andy,

Two more thoughts:

1. Did you disconnect the actuator from the arm on the wastegate shaft? If you did, have you got the shaft pointing the right way? It should point towards the back of the car and I think it might be possible to have it pointing forwards, in which case your wastegate would be fully open and you would get no boost.

2. Very unlikely scenario becasue of the other retaining bolts, but have you possibly rotated the turbo cover (the snail-like cover) when you removed the actuation capsule? It could affect the boost if it has been moved.
