hood release cable & petrol flap cable broken

Postby rushing » Mon 06.04.2009, 10:29

hi all

This ia a problem i have had for some time and would appreciate some anwers please . Both sudes of my hood release cable and fuel door flap release cables have snapped off from the body work.the handle is lose leaving the sides of the door framework with two rounf holes size of a golf ball . The handle is lose as the washers which hold the cables to the body have fallen . i can still release and pull the cable handle to put the hood down.I went to a local mechanic and he said he could do the job but will have to remove both sides back panels .im really worried about this as the bolts of the panel could be rusted as anything .also dont want to leave any scratch marks, dents on paint work.
Is there a way that you can access the hood release and petrol flap release stowage cables from underneath .is there any any write up or fiiting instructions in the manual
i sourced some stowage release cables from lotus which was good . was not too expensive . so just needs to take the old ones out and bolt frame the new cables back in with some giant washers from either side . Has anyone had this problem. I guess the previous owner must have pulled the stowage cables hard to tare away the fibre glass . oohps

I imagine that if the fibreglass is torn, he needs to put new fibreglass and re-do the hole so its perfect again (the beauty of non-visible firbeglass repairs I suppose). I assume therefore he would need decent access, try to do it through a small hole would be difficult.....but maybe there is other access.
